Stockholm, Sweden!

okay I know what you are thinking... "these girls are travelling soooo much!" WH said we are xiao and.. I have to admit I think we are. See we were so lured by cheap budget airfares that we just booked so many weekend trips that now we are on an overdose. Too ambitious of us lah, but July we are taking it easy- just one weekend trip out of UK. SS said that when she went over to the US with her hubby, they did the same thing.. (I guess such initial reaction is normal?) After a few months, they just were too tired and just wanted to go around their neighbourhood instead. haha hmm yes so July will be the month we explore more of London.

That said, we spent last weekend in Stockholm, Sweden. A chilled-out NO RUSH kind of weekend coz all of us were on an overdose. We went with JL, Shany, Christine & another colleague Kathy. We set off from Stansted airport for the 3rd time now, quite pro at getting there from our place aldy :)

Sweden, land of blonde babes and hunks, ooh here we come!~ (at least that's what everyone else tells us.)
Yellow and blue, their national colours even on their post boxes

Even the clouds are so nice

Day 1
Our hostel is in the city centre, good location and great that there were 6 of us, so we could have one whole 6 bedder to ourselves. By the time we set off from hostel, it was 5plus and we spotted H&Ms (yes a few of them in one stretch!), the original "home-ground" as one mag called it. Too bad, it was just 30min more before they close and we made a last min dash =p well didn't get anything in the end coz we realised it's not v much cheaper than London. Anyway Christine & Kathy are good man.. Kathy spent more than 100GBP in that 30min! *applause to that*

As this was Sweden, we all wanted to try the renowned swedish meatballs and we went to a few restaurants, finally settled for this nice looking place... well... must say it wasn't cheap (being Scandinavia) and the sad thing was that it wasn't nice!! haizz Ikea's meatballs are way better I must say. boohoo so sad. Kathy was brave enough to try some reindeer meat for dinner.. and oh well, she said it tasted "weird". We were all unsatisfied & decided we had to adjourn somewhere else to have nice desserts, which we did hehe Being summer, sky was still bright at 10pm, something which I really like.

Day 2

City Hall

Rise and shine! We all had our muffins for breakfast while walking to their City Hall, led by Kathy. She is really gooood with directions and maps, this girl. Never get lost with her around *thumbs up*  We nick named her "Tom Tom".  It was great weather, not as hot as Salzburg with the occasional breeze. We took a 3h cruise out to the Swedish Archipelago, great views with all the reflections & all in the water. Had lunch, yes we had to try some nice meatballs, so tried our luck again at this cafe by the river and this one was much better, thankfully. (altho some nagging thought in my mind still thinks Ikea one is nicer.. dunno why haha) It was a sunny and slow paced afternoon.. not sure if we covered the important sights within that short span of time, or were we too tired from exploring new places.. had abt 2h so we just sat by the river and chilled. Quite nice, really.

Flight touched down Stansted at 1020pm, bus to Stratford was at 10:55pm and guess what.. engineering works on Jubilee line (again!!) so no train service to our place. Too late for tube services so we had to share a cab back.  Another weekend trip away, back to work tomorrow!

Murder Mystery Dinner Party

Two Saturdays ago we were invited to the Kim's for a themed dinner, specifically a Murder Mystery dinner party.  What is that, you might ask.  It was our first time attending such a dinner too, and so how it works is: a group of people attend a dinner party.  Each is assigned a role and will be given a script to read that night.  The aim of the party is to identify a murderer in the midst of us by the end of the night.  The hosts would work off a dinner game set (they got it off Amazon) and it comes with proper invites, setting/ scene, table name cards, scripts and even a suggested menu.  Clearly RX is an Agatha Christie fan. Two weeks beforehand, we received our invites in the postbox, telling us what roles we each have been assigned and the suggested attire (and props if necessary).  Interesting yes? The dinner was to start at 7pm and we were to have 8 people that night.  It's all very mysterious… Our invitation cards assigned K the...

Cooking mee pok dry | bak chor and fishball noodles

When I touched down at Changi airport a few weeks ago, I was very hungry and K suggested grabbing a quick bite at the food court.  I immediately went for the queue at the bak chor (minced pork) noodles stall.  This one dish is very local and we simply can't find it here.  London's Chinatown has a few Malaysian restaurants with fried kway teow, chicken rice, laksa, etc but there is no authentic fishball noodles or minced pork noodles. When my friend Corinne shared this link last week, I was intrigued and I didn't know K was too.  He suggested going to the Asian supermarket on Sunday to get the necessary ingredients.  We found Dodo fishballs from Singapore here - what a win!  Unfortunately the mee pok (yellow, flat noodles) is of a darker shade here and tastes slightly different (maybe a different type of wheat?).  We found fishcakes too. http://delishar.com/2015/12/fishball-noodles-mee-pok-tah.html This is a healthier version of the hawker center'...

Memories made at Danson Park

I can't believe I still have readers to this dormant blog!  Thank you for coming back again :) In case you didn't know, our little family of four actually flew back to the UK together for the first time last November.  For me, I've been back twice with Izzy, and poor Gabriel kept asking when could he go back to London.  Finally K said we should take the trip together and also drive around northern France, our fav area to visit.  Well fav, in that it is very easy to get to from the UK and we have really grown to like the more rural parts of Brittany. I grabbed the chance to contact Joanne, who took some photos of the kids previously.  In fact I think she has seen my kids grow up, from taking Christmas photos to family photos. We were pressed for time and I had to do some convincing for K to agree to do this shoot... looking at the photos, glad i insisted on doing it.  More to document kids growing up well.. and us growing old  I plan to blog more about ...
