Weekend in London

Hey guys, we've just had a relaxing and lovely weekend in London!

Saturday - Picnic in the park
Well we wanted to wake up to go jogging around our neighbourhood. haha yes I know you are in disbelief *rolls eyes* 0_0 and Guess what! It rained!! hmm maybe that meant something..
So no choice we went to do grocery shopping instead and walked around Surrey Quays Shopping Centre a bit, our Junction 8 equiv. Reminds me so much of the shopping mall us girls went to in Kingston. Went back home and I tried to cook chicken porridge.. called my dear ah ma for the recipe and woohoo~ it worked!! So so happy to taste this fav porridge of mine after 2 months. *in bliss*
The sun came out after lunch and we decided we should go for a nice picnic at Greenwich Park (way further east rather than downtown to Hyde Park or Kensington Gardens hoping it will be less crowded) so Cynthia made some french toast and we brought that together with some choc cookies, strawberries, a bottle of orange juice and off we went! We took a bus there coz the tube was down (yes again can u believe it!).. anyways it was just a 15-20min bus ride so not that bad.

Greenwich as you may already know is the place where the Greenwich Meridian Line is (and where we get Greenwich Meridian Time), and this line is known to be right in the centre of the earth. Well since we were there, might as well pop by The Royal Observatory to see the famous line and boy, there were so many tourists and the queue was so long just to take a pic of that line. Oh well, so we just took a pic from a distance.

In the right direction

The famous meridian line - see the red arrow!

mmmm it was the perfect weather and view from Greenwich Park (which btw, is the oldest park London) is on a little hill so we could see a view of London from where we sat. People brought their dogs out, flew their kites, and mostly were just lazing under the sunshine with that occassional breeze making it air con temp. I am beginning to love picnics!! You get great sunshine and fresh air :) Perfecto.

Right above us is the observatory, taken where we were sitting

Looking at clouds lying down

Just chillin'

2h later... Cynthia has fallen asleep after munching on the french toast and cookies... Bel is writing her journal and looking at kids rolling on the grass wondering... why do that love doing that so much?

We left the park at 6pm and we took the bus back home and started to prepare our Italian dinner! So exciting coz we bought this tiramisu from Tesco highly recommended by May plus we saw marinated salmon at the supermarket this morning and bought one piece. We cooked together (Cyn cooked chicken soup and boiled the pasta; I pan fried the salmon and then I fried the cooked pasta in the pan putting olive oil, salt, mixed herbs & chilli flakes. omg it looks so good hahah and indeed, it was yummilicious. I love salmon so much and have been missing it for some time. Best of all, whole meal was so cheap compared to eating out.

Looking like pros?

ahhh.. what a nice and simple day.

Sunday - Church and err.. what else, shopping (summer sales are here!)

Woke up this morning, was almost late for church and then was so fed up when I couldn't find my keys... grrr... Since there was no tube service this weekend, we both figured out last night to take bus #1 straight to Tottenham Court Road which will take at least 45min. And while crossing the road, I spotted Bus No. 1 coming out of the interchange and I was like "!!!! of all time..."

And then I learnt a lesson about blessing in disguise. I happened to turn around and saw a sign "Replacement Bus Service" (thing is, if there are no tube services, they will provide free buses out to a few major designated stations - and we forgot abt this totally) Best of all, the bus just arrived and after asking the TFL guy he asked me to take to Bank station and change to Central Line. Praise God, the entire journey took less than 30min and I was in fact, early for church! :)

Today's sermon was something different and nice. Guest speaker was a lady pastor from a church in North London. She talked about the spirit of hospitability and how we can apply that to church, using Abraham's story in Genesis of how he welcomed 3 strangers to his house with that wonderful spirit. And then *drumroll*.... there was an announcement of the upcoming Hillsong Conference here in London and I was soooooo happy to see that Ps Prince is coming!!! omg omg omg :D I think God answered my prayer, hallelujah :) *super excited* I hope he preaches at our sunday service too.

Met Grace and Cynthia for lunch at this authentic dim sum place with the best egg tarts. ever. We walked down to Oxford again and I went into Selfridges for the first time (reminds me of Taka) everything was very branded and naturally very ex so in the end we still went to Primark haha.. but after going to Aberdeen's Primark, we cannot tahan the chaotic Primark in London. H&M was having sale and I think I got the best buy of the day - this pair of lovely grey pants reduced from GBP14.99 to just GBP5! *grinning* oh and also another great buy, a bottle of Eau de Parfum from Crabtree and Evelyn reduced from GBP25 to GBP7.50!

Once again, another great attempt at dinner by Miss Wihardja tonight. She cooked chicken & mushroom rice, following her mum's recipe very closely and it was really delicious. Ok I am feeling the stress creeping in.. she cooks so well, and err I always end up washing the dishes only.

-__- I also wanna contribute!

Murder Mystery Dinner Party

Two Saturdays ago we were invited to the Kim's for a themed dinner, specifically a Murder Mystery dinner party.  What is that, you might ask.  It was our first time attending such a dinner too, and so how it works is: a group of people attend a dinner party.  Each is assigned a role and will be given a script to read that night.  The aim of the party is to identify a murderer in the midst of us by the end of the night.  The hosts would work off a dinner game set (they got it off Amazon) and it comes with proper invites, setting/ scene, table name cards, scripts and even a suggested menu.  Clearly RX is an Agatha Christie fan. Two weeks beforehand, we received our invites in the postbox, telling us what roles we each have been assigned and the suggested attire (and props if necessary).  Interesting yes? The dinner was to start at 7pm and we were to have 8 people that night.  It's all very mysterious… Our invitation cards assigned K the...

Cooking mee pok dry | bak chor and fishball noodles

When I touched down at Changi airport a few weeks ago, I was very hungry and K suggested grabbing a quick bite at the food court.  I immediately went for the queue at the bak chor (minced pork) noodles stall.  This one dish is very local and we simply can't find it here.  London's Chinatown has a few Malaysian restaurants with fried kway teow, chicken rice, laksa, etc but there is no authentic fishball noodles or minced pork noodles. When my friend Corinne shared this link last week, I was intrigued and I didn't know K was too.  He suggested going to the Asian supermarket on Sunday to get the necessary ingredients.  We found Dodo fishballs from Singapore here - what a win!  Unfortunately the mee pok (yellow, flat noodles) is of a darker shade here and tastes slightly different (maybe a different type of wheat?).  We found fishcakes too. http://delishar.com/2015/12/fishball-noodles-mee-pok-tah.html This is a healthier version of the hawker center'...

Memories made at Danson Park

I can't believe I still have readers to this dormant blog!  Thank you for coming back again :) In case you didn't know, our little family of four actually flew back to the UK together for the first time last November.  For me, I've been back twice with Izzy, and poor Gabriel kept asking when could he go back to London.  Finally K said we should take the trip together and also drive around northern France, our fav area to visit.  Well fav, in that it is very easy to get to from the UK and we have really grown to like the more rural parts of Brittany. I grabbed the chance to contact Joanne, who took some photos of the kids previously.  In fact I think she has seen my kids grow up, from taking Christmas photos to family photos. We were pressed for time and I had to do some convincing for K to agree to do this shoot... looking at the photos, glad i insisted on doing it.  More to document kids growing up well.. and us growing old  I plan to blog more about ...
