Last Friday the first connect group which I attended with Ivy held their dinner party too, in the form of a BBQ. (Well I think coincidentally to make up for the BBQ misadventure we had in the Lake District?!) Most of the people in the group are from South Africa and we went to Louw's place after going home to pick up my Wardolf Salad (yums - see I learn smtg from serving in PRA). I invited Cynthia to join us since it was nothing "Christian-y" about it; it was just a gathering.
We met a lot of people, lots more than the first time I attended and it was nice. There was this pair of sisters from Ecuador, one of whom we thought is so pretty and she looked like a pretty doll with her curls! Louw's siblings were there as well with their other half, and I actually met his sister in law called Belinda as well! heehee so funny, calling her and felt I was calling myself. There was a super abundance of food and it felt warm n cosy in the living room which linked to the back garden where Louw was busy BBQ-ing.
This was an interesting BBQ indeed! The South African way as we realised. Ivy hangs out pretty often with South Africans and she explained to us that theoretically the ladies would be busy preparing salad while the guys would be busy BBQ-ing and they were supposed to end abt the same time and they would then enjoy all the food together. In this case, the salads were all done already (like our case, the night prior!) and then it turns out, Louw was the only guy doing the BBQ! The rest were standing around talking to him but he was clearly enjoying himself, bless him. In fact, he was tremendously proud of his new portable pit which cost him 100 quid (!) in a retro lime green color.
We reached at 7pm and after mingling around, he introduced us to this playstation game called Sing Star (if I am not wrong) and it's basically a KTV challenge/ game. So the computer determines if you can hit the high and low notes, or if you have dragged the notes long enough.. which is pretty cute. It was funny hearing people sing and then.... we soon realised our stomachs were growling.. but Louw (the self declared tong-master) was still not done with BBQ-ing.
:: 4h later and the sun has set ::
Only a handful, okay only the two sisters were singing happily whereas the rest of us were seriously famished and just sitting around when suddenly Louw came in saying we could eat coz he's done! YAY haha it was THE MOMENT of the night I tell ya.. everyone sprung up from the sofa and I swear a mini queue formed in the kitchen. And whoa.. the spread was quite amazing. It felt like a buffet restaurant. Of coz we all said grace led by Percy before we all tucked in and it was silence all around; everyone busy focussed on their food. hahaa.. so funny. Overall it was an enjoyable night!
*Three cheers to Louw, our tong-master for the night!*
