bel wishes for a smooth monthend

wow one week just zoomed past like that.

So my team just had a new intern and she's from Hong Kong. She's quite chatty and we get along pretty well. This gal is stick thin and she started sharing some dieting tips with me and that she lost 10kg in 3 months can you believe it! (A living example of dieting tried and tested!) So I have decided to heed her advice to have a no carbo dinner now. Thus dinner now consists of just meat and veg and no rice. Before my family gets worried, for the record, I must announce I am still eating normally.. just replacing rice with more meat and veg! I think there are many schools of thought of dieting and all, and I am not very well versed in this area so... will follow this plan for now and see if it works! heehee

Besides new intern, work has been pretty yucky with my P&Ls. One thing I don't understand is they are making BIG bucks but yet they are mostly in a foul mood? Bear with me while i rant on... like on monday, this big bonds desk made like so much money and yet both traders were in such a bad mood (like carried fwd from last friday) and I was damn stressed can.. even J the supposedly more sane guy is now unfortunately... going the other way. He was shouting like a madman just because of some small issue. Anyway after he cooled down, I told him I don't like him to shout at me like that coz it wasn't my fault, etc.. and I think it got into his head (I hope it did!) and he apologised but also tried to justify (still justify?!) saying that "error" will make him look stupid in front of his boss, blah.. and I was so exasperated. My manager's on some (happy) cruise in the Carribean Islands but thankfully the manager of the other team offered his help and also offered to help me speak to J's boss for his ridiculous behaviour. Anyway I thought just let it rest since J did apologise. Initially I thought they had something against me or what but later found out they are doing the same thing to the trade support team so ok at least I know it's not me. Jen's double checking everything before going back to them and said they are "having a go at the whole world now". So monday started on a bad note but thankfully their mood got better as the week passed so these 2 days they are in a damn good mood, making yet more money. Like today I went down to the trading floor and E actually smiled and said Hi to me. I was shocked. Now bel is very hopeful for tmr since it's friday assuming their mood curve is hitting an all time high this whole week!

And then there's this other miser trader. Also making BIG bucks in his year to date numbers and what does he do? Monitor his YTD P&L every few hours I bet and making sure the numbers don't change (Isn't he supposed to monitor the market instead??). So anyway my colleague posted an adjustment to his P&L of about USD -20K for a valid reason in the afternoon and he came shouting his head off asking what happened to his USD20K. "My morning P&L is different from now!!" huh excuse me, I didn't even know what happened.. asked my colleague and replied him and he was screaming how come we anyhow deduct money blah blah BLAH. goodness, what is USD20K to him in the grand scheme of things when his YTD is in millions?? We think he is miser to the max! bleahh

ok finished ranting.. for now. *takes deep breath*

:)

TGIF everyone!

Jubilee Weekend | Afternoon Tea Party

http://www.thediamondjubilee.org/ Today is the end of the Jubilee celebrations and how better to end it off than to have an afternoon tea party in the company of friends, while watching the celebrations on our TV.  It has been quite an emotional afternoon, in the good sense of course.  I don't think I've ever seen Queen Elizabeth on TV (and heard the national anthem God Save the Queen) more than these 3 days combined, but this Jubilee weekend has made me grew to love and admire this lady.  She is 86 and reminds me so much of my own granny, and her strength is amazing.  Imagine being sworn in as queen at the age of 26.  (I mean, what was I doing when I was 26?)  On Sunday when she and Prince Philip went onboard the Spirit of Chartwell boat to watch the River Pageant, it was cold and windy but they stood throughout the 3 hours event.  It was said she was offered some hot tea and a seat, which she both said no to.  I love my grandma but ...

Murder Mystery Dinner Party

Two Saturdays ago we were invited to the Kim's for a themed dinner, specifically a Murder Mystery dinner party.  What is that, you might ask.  It was our first time attending such a dinner too, and so how it works is: a group of people attend a dinner party.  Each is assigned a role and will be given a script to read that night.  The aim of the party is to identify a murderer in the midst of us by the end of the night.  The hosts would work off a dinner game set (they got it off Amazon) and it comes with proper invites, setting/ scene, table name cards, scripts and even a suggested menu.  Clearly RX is an Agatha Christie fan. Two weeks beforehand, we received our invites in the postbox, telling us what roles we each have been assigned and the suggested attire (and props if necessary).  Interesting yes? The dinner was to start at 7pm and we were to have 8 people that night.  It's all very mysterious… Our invitation cards assigned K the...

Cooking mee pok dry | bak chor and fishball noodles

When I touched down at Changi airport a few weeks ago, I was very hungry and K suggested grabbing a quick bite at the food court.  I immediately went for the queue at the bak chor (minced pork) noodles stall.  This one dish is very local and we simply can't find it here.  London's Chinatown has a few Malaysian restaurants with fried kway teow, chicken rice, laksa, etc but there is no authentic fishball noodles or minced pork noodles. When my friend Corinne shared this link last week, I was intrigued and I didn't know K was too.  He suggested going to the Asian supermarket on Sunday to get the necessary ingredients.  We found Dodo fishballs from Singapore here - what a win!  Unfortunately the mee pok (yellow, flat noodles) is of a darker shade here and tastes slightly different (maybe a different type of wheat?).  We found fishcakes too. http://delishar.com/2015/12/fishball-noodles-mee-pok-tah.html This is a healthier version of the hawker center'...
