Weekend of Hampton Court Palace & BBBQ

Remember the recent Singapore Day 09? Yes it was held here at Hampton Court Palace. So sad I couldn't get to go!

Just when I was blogging about feeling lost on how to spend the weekend, literally at the same time (no joke), I heard noises in my garden patio and boo! Yeelin and Felix came by to check on my tap (it was leaking the night before when they were here). So sweet of them! And upon chatting, they said they were going Hampton Court Palace later in the day and invited me to join them (altho I know I'm gonna be like a big light bulb shining shining.. haha) The rain came and they also needed to run some errands prior so after the minor delays, when we reached the palace it was like late afternoon so we didn't really explore much. YL and I paid GBP3.50 each and went to explore the "oldest maze in the world" (as stated in the Guiness Book of Records) while Felix went to snooze under some tree. We walked along the river thames after the palace closed and just chatted about - serious stuff - life issues haha.. it's actually quite good/ interesting to talk about such things once in a while.

The aim is to locate the centre of the maze.

Felix snoozing; we saw lots of bumble bees on this particular type of flower so I had some macro photography exercises here.

I have to make a special mention of these cute little geese we spotted along the river bank. They seem to love having an orderly formation. We observed them for a while.. when a leader goose jumped into the water, everyone followed suit in an orderly manner like they were queueing up! And I took a shot of them in the water. How straight right?! And then we recall studying about their fixed formation when they fly together. How cute is that??

On our long journey home, that was also when we decided to do something really summery.. like a BBQ! It was agreed my garden patio is the perfect setting (after realising we could do al fresco) and it shall take place *drumroll* the next day! *very excited* So came Sunday and I excitedly went to Tesco to get the pork and chicken and also the "secret marinade mix" as recommended by Daryl who shared his tip at last week's BBQ at his place.

The weather was perfect- the sunshine and cool wind (well a bit too strong at some point in time) but it was perfect to start the fire and in the end we had so much food coz they brought salad and pasta; I had the meat from Tesco as well as 20 leftover Ikea meatballs (It was a 1kg pkt!! Took me ages to finish man.. now I'm a bit scared of them. And yes I count them faithfully.. to see when I can finally finish them!) and some garlic bread in the freezer. Oh how could I forget, yes YL brought over our fav ice cream.. mint choc chip ice-cream!!

Can someone shout yummy?! haha

We all agreed it was almost the best BBQ we've ever had - beautiful weather, yummilicious food and great company! Felix called it the BBBQ - Belinda's BBQ. woohoo!~

I'm so gonna have another BBBQ again. Can't wait!

Jubilee Weekend | Afternoon Tea Party

http://www.thediamondjubilee.org/ Today is the end of the Jubilee celebrations and how better to end it off than to have an afternoon tea party in the company of friends, while watching the celebrations on our TV.  It has been quite an emotional afternoon, in the good sense of course.  I don't think I've ever seen Queen Elizabeth on TV (and heard the national anthem God Save the Queen) more than these 3 days combined, but this Jubilee weekend has made me grew to love and admire this lady.  She is 86 and reminds me so much of my own granny, and her strength is amazing.  Imagine being sworn in as queen at the age of 26.  (I mean, what was I doing when I was 26?)  On Sunday when she and Prince Philip went onboard the Spirit of Chartwell boat to watch the River Pageant, it was cold and windy but they stood throughout the 3 hours event.  It was said she was offered some hot tea and a seat, which she both said no to.  I love my grandma but ...

Murder Mystery Dinner Party

Two Saturdays ago we were invited to the Kim's for a themed dinner, specifically a Murder Mystery dinner party.  What is that, you might ask.  It was our first time attending such a dinner too, and so how it works is: a group of people attend a dinner party.  Each is assigned a role and will be given a script to read that night.  The aim of the party is to identify a murderer in the midst of us by the end of the night.  The hosts would work off a dinner game set (they got it off Amazon) and it comes with proper invites, setting/ scene, table name cards, scripts and even a suggested menu.  Clearly RX is an Agatha Christie fan. Two weeks beforehand, we received our invites in the postbox, telling us what roles we each have been assigned and the suggested attire (and props if necessary).  Interesting yes? The dinner was to start at 7pm and we were to have 8 people that night.  It's all very mysterious… Our invitation cards assigned K the...

Cooking mee pok dry | bak chor and fishball noodles

When I touched down at Changi airport a few weeks ago, I was very hungry and K suggested grabbing a quick bite at the food court.  I immediately went for the queue at the bak chor (minced pork) noodles stall.  This one dish is very local and we simply can't find it here.  London's Chinatown has a few Malaysian restaurants with fried kway teow, chicken rice, laksa, etc but there is no authentic fishball noodles or minced pork noodles. When my friend Corinne shared this link last week, I was intrigued and I didn't know K was too.  He suggested going to the Asian supermarket on Sunday to get the necessary ingredients.  We found Dodo fishballs from Singapore here - what a win!  Unfortunately the mee pok (yellow, flat noodles) is of a darker shade here and tastes slightly different (maybe a different type of wheat?).  We found fishcakes too. http://delishar.com/2015/12/fishball-noodles-mee-pok-tah.html This is a healthier version of the hawker center'...
