crazy day part 1

To think that I thought it would be a quiet Thursday.

Just when we strolled in happily after lunch thinking "yay half a Thursday is gone.. half more day to go and weekend's coming soon."

Manager: Oh Belinda, bad news for you... C is unwinding his xxx trades today. And... I'm not gonna be in tomorrow...

omg this is like the worst piece of news ever can. Of coz my manager's not gonne be in. He's going to Wales tomorrow.

a wave of panic fills our little corner

From 2pm onwards, Kat, me and manager all focused on whatever energies we had studying and analyzing the trades trying to see how much money he would make or lose from it. Because the whole package was in millions, we had to ensure it was correct. And in times like this, the clock ticks like it's never ticked faster... we were so stressed and I swear my manager's hair somehow looked very messy too. It was chaotic. TS guys were also milling around asking my manager how to book the trades, are they in correct directions, blah blah BLAH

It doesn't help that C kept sending messages on bloomberg chat asking if it was done yet. Somehow these people think it's very easy issit?! Urgh he sends messages, calls and I hear swear words from everyone around me because we were like racing against time, and basically C himself.

4pm
An email from C. "Hi, I just did another of those xyz trades. Please keep a lookout and adjust accordingly tomorrow." How many different complicated trades can one guy trade in a day?!? We haven't even finished looking at xxx!

5pm
A message popped up on my pc from S "Belinda, can I have the account number to book the fee please? Just waiting for this piece of info from you. We can't book anything past 6pm." Seriously, no idea what acct no she was talking about (I don't even book any trades...). I think I looked like a wreck. I looked at my manager helplessly while his phone rang again (and with messier hair), he looked at me saying "I need to answer this call from C, can you co-ordinate all the trade bookings please? Just tell them what to book." *faints big time* How can??

6pm
No trades were booked yet. Manager and another guy went down to find out more about the trade economics. Nobody knew what to do. Can you imagine the frantic situation we were in. wah lau... seriously, I want to go home, enough of all the heart attacks... but nothing's solved yet so gotta hang around more :(

6.30pm
A glimmer of light when both guys came back up and my manager said "okay I think I know what's happening now." whew!
Bloomberg rings again. "Is it done yet??"
Kat: "He is relentless, isn't he?!"
Phone rings and I bet he asked the same question again.
My mgr replied saying "oh not yet, we just want to make sure everything is correct before we book the trades." >> in the same courteous tone like it's the first time C is calling. How does he do that I don't know.
"I don't understand, don't care, just make sure you get it right" snapped C.
fwah, talk about being appreciative.

Manager sends reply on BB "ok trades booked. all look correct. tomorrow morning we will confirm with you again"
C: but you are not in tomorrow
M: yes but K & B will be.
(a long pause here in reply.. and I asked "Do you think he has fainted?")

C: that doesn't fill me with confidence.

What a cow. No matter how hard we try to do stuff for him, this is all he can say of us? We still find it amazing how one of our ex colleagues actually went with C outside London to watch their favorite football club playing in a match. And mind you it's outside London, I realise he had to endure the journey to and fro with him beside him. *shudder*

7.30pm
Finally my manager sent an email summary to everyone, striving to be "clear as daylight" and so Kat and I are seriously seriously hoping what we all did today was correct. If not, tomorrow's gonna be D-Day.

Grace and favour.. and most importantly wisdom!! Amen!

Jubilee Weekend | Afternoon Tea Party

http://www.thediamondjubilee.org/ Today is the end of the Jubilee celebrations and how better to end it off than to have an afternoon tea party in the company of friends, while watching the celebrations on our TV.  It has been quite an emotional afternoon, in the good sense of course.  I don't think I've ever seen Queen Elizabeth on TV (and heard the national anthem God Save the Queen) more than these 3 days combined, but this Jubilee weekend has made me grew to love and admire this lady.  She is 86 and reminds me so much of my own granny, and her strength is amazing.  Imagine being sworn in as queen at the age of 26.  (I mean, what was I doing when I was 26?)  On Sunday when she and Prince Philip went onboard the Spirit of Chartwell boat to watch the River Pageant, it was cold and windy but they stood throughout the 3 hours event.  It was said she was offered some hot tea and a seat, which she both said no to.  I love my grandma but ...

Murder Mystery Dinner Party

Two Saturdays ago we were invited to the Kim's for a themed dinner, specifically a Murder Mystery dinner party.  What is that, you might ask.  It was our first time attending such a dinner too, and so how it works is: a group of people attend a dinner party.  Each is assigned a role and will be given a script to read that night.  The aim of the party is to identify a murderer in the midst of us by the end of the night.  The hosts would work off a dinner game set (they got it off Amazon) and it comes with proper invites, setting/ scene, table name cards, scripts and even a suggested menu.  Clearly RX is an Agatha Christie fan. Two weeks beforehand, we received our invites in the postbox, telling us what roles we each have been assigned and the suggested attire (and props if necessary).  Interesting yes? The dinner was to start at 7pm and we were to have 8 people that night.  It's all very mysterious… Our invitation cards assigned K the...

Cooking mee pok dry | bak chor and fishball noodles

When I touched down at Changi airport a few weeks ago, I was very hungry and K suggested grabbing a quick bite at the food court.  I immediately went for the queue at the bak chor (minced pork) noodles stall.  This one dish is very local and we simply can't find it here.  London's Chinatown has a few Malaysian restaurants with fried kway teow, chicken rice, laksa, etc but there is no authentic fishball noodles or minced pork noodles. When my friend Corinne shared this link last week, I was intrigued and I didn't know K was too.  He suggested going to the Asian supermarket on Sunday to get the necessary ingredients.  We found Dodo fishballs from Singapore here - what a win!  Unfortunately the mee pok (yellow, flat noodles) is of a darker shade here and tastes slightly different (maybe a different type of wheat?).  We found fishcakes too. http://delishar.com/2015/12/fishball-noodles-mee-pok-tah.html This is a healthier version of the hawker center'...
