That's right, I spent an authentic Scottish night with Sarah and a whole bunch of people from Hillsong at the Ceilidh (pronounced kay-lee) Club at Camden Town. You must be wondering what is it.. basically it's the Scottish folk dance! haha I know it sounds something what oldies would do (Dunno why I keep thinking of line dancing.. plus it was held in this town hall place which reminded me of like Bishan Community Club from the outside altho it's within a posh neighbourhood.)
So after work, I rushed off from office and met Sarah, VJ and Cherry - VJ is this super punk rock meets heavy metal girl from Lithuania, but when you start talking to her, she is this funny and warm person; and Cherry is Sarah's uni schoolmate from Ireland and of coz, we all know Sarah's Scottish. I always can feel the Scot's pride within her, or within every Scot I meet? haha (Kat and a few guys from office are English and they sometimes makes funny remarks about the Scottish altho I don't get it.. the only difference I can spot is their accents and nothing else? Oh and of coz, Scottish people like haggis.. remember?) Anyway enough of introductions..
This Ceilidh dancing takes place in this big hall with a scottish band and you pay GBP12.50 for your ticket, and there is "schoolmaster" old man who would give instructions on how the next dance is gonna be and everyone would somehow get the steps (simple ones, no worries) and each dance lasts about 10-15min. And trust me, it IS a workout on it's own! But it's a happy workout coz with the music and everyone's participation, it makes it really fun!! And there was this really old man (in his 70s maybe?) who was probably the oldest man in the crowd but gamely danced his own pace and it was a cute sight to behold. Don't get me wrong, the crowd is generally young though (which is a surprise to me). And Scottish guys wear their kilts proudly to the event, including Jason, one of tonight's organisers. Somehow I love this Scotsman pride within them!
Everyone dances the Ceilidh at every Scottish wedding, I think it's cool. Anyway there was this dance where Sarah danced a guy's part and it was nonstop for 15min fast steps and she kept saying while dancing "I'm gonna die, gonna dieeeee" hahaha and everyone just perspired like anything. And what best to do during the dance intervals? Get a beer of course, or no, maybe a whiskey instead.
Now I think my body's gonna ache tomorrow.
