Hen Party!

Last Saturday was one of the best Saturday afternoons ever because we held a hen party for our dear Gabby at our place. The guests she invited are all her close friends and may I add a very international crowd! The bride-to-be Gabby is from Ecuador, 1 Czech, 3 English, 1 South African, 1 Australian, 1 Polish, 1 Scottish, 1 Norwegian and of course 1 Singaporean!

It started off with a tea party at our place, I was in charge of food and decor with M, and Sarah was the games specialist. In addition, I did what I always do best and enjoy doing- a scrap book for Gabby :) M and I went Waitrose early in the morning and bought roses, pretty cupcakes, balloons, champagne, fruits, etc. We were so in the mood and excited about what's to come!

1pm. back home finally and I was famished. While cooking, we said there might still be time for a quick nap or laze around. And then while eating my porridge, the door bell rang. I was still in my PJs can you believe it, and M had just finished decorating the house (she's really good at this), and thankfully, the first guest was someone we know- Liandi! Uh-oh and I was thinking.. a quick nap. Are you really serious?? haha

Decor even in the toilet! Told you M is good.

Our coffee table transformed

So then the guests arrived and everyone introduced themselves, made themselves comfortable. One corner was full of presents for Gabby, and on our coffee table we had a choc dip set from my fav choc shop Hotel Chocolat (it's actually my birthday present from Kat and Bridget but no way I can finish that all by myself!), cupcakes, fruits, few rounds of champagne.

And the games started. We had a list of questions about Ben and for every answer she gets right, she could pick and unwrap a present. For every one she gets wrong, she needs to go into the pink bag and pick up something and wear it on. We're no meanies as you might know ;) so all the stuff in the pink bag were harmless.

The second game was Pass the Parcel, something English or so I understand. It's a simple child like game but everyone was really in the mood and it became very competitive and a must to get hold of one of the 'parcels'. Really funny and there were lots of laughter in the lounge.

Seriously these girls ARE competitive!

Touched by the photo scrapbook

The last game was the best of all. We had to split up into 3 groups and using aluminum foil and newspaper, we all had to design a winning wedding dress in 20min, and Gabby will choose the winner! It was the breaking point because everyone was roaring with laughter when the 3 models strutted into the lounge. Eventually when the laughter died down, Gabby had to pick a winner. M's group! *applause*

Quite a feat in 20min don't you think? P was showing off her statement necklace, she even had an aluminum bracelet and ring! She is soooo funny seriously.
Me and M were the other 2 models. It was really competitive. She had a flower bouquet and a flower hairband too! My team totally underestimated these girls.
With the real bride of course

The winner!

Lest you think the fab day was over, we ended by going to a Mexican place for dinner across the river in Greenwich. Gabby's South American and loves Mexican food.

I always thought that hen parties here are wild nights out at clubs and people getting dead drunk, and so was a bit worried how our tea party would turn out. Whilst there is an element of truth, with most hen parties full of dancing and alcohol, we proved that it could still be fun with food, games, laughter, and more food! :)

Jubilee Weekend | Afternoon Tea Party

http://www.thediamondjubilee.org/ Today is the end of the Jubilee celebrations and how better to end it off than to have an afternoon tea party in the company of friends, while watching the celebrations on our TV.  It has been quite an emotional afternoon, in the good sense of course.  I don't think I've ever seen Queen Elizabeth on TV (and heard the national anthem God Save the Queen) more than these 3 days combined, but this Jubilee weekend has made me grew to love and admire this lady.  She is 86 and reminds me so much of my own granny, and her strength is amazing.  Imagine being sworn in as queen at the age of 26.  (I mean, what was I doing when I was 26?)  On Sunday when she and Prince Philip went onboard the Spirit of Chartwell boat to watch the River Pageant, it was cold and windy but they stood throughout the 3 hours event.  It was said she was offered some hot tea and a seat, which she both said no to.  I love my grandma but ...

Murder Mystery Dinner Party

Two Saturdays ago we were invited to the Kim's for a themed dinner, specifically a Murder Mystery dinner party.  What is that, you might ask.  It was our first time attending such a dinner too, and so how it works is: a group of people attend a dinner party.  Each is assigned a role and will be given a script to read that night.  The aim of the party is to identify a murderer in the midst of us by the end of the night.  The hosts would work off a dinner game set (they got it off Amazon) and it comes with proper invites, setting/ scene, table name cards, scripts and even a suggested menu.  Clearly RX is an Agatha Christie fan. Two weeks beforehand, we received our invites in the postbox, telling us what roles we each have been assigned and the suggested attire (and props if necessary).  Interesting yes? The dinner was to start at 7pm and we were to have 8 people that night.  It's all very mysterious… Our invitation cards assigned K the...

Cooking mee pok dry | bak chor and fishball noodles

When I touched down at Changi airport a few weeks ago, I was very hungry and K suggested grabbing a quick bite at the food court.  I immediately went for the queue at the bak chor (minced pork) noodles stall.  This one dish is very local and we simply can't find it here.  London's Chinatown has a few Malaysian restaurants with fried kway teow, chicken rice, laksa, etc but there is no authentic fishball noodles or minced pork noodles. When my friend Corinne shared this link last week, I was intrigued and I didn't know K was too.  He suggested going to the Asian supermarket on Sunday to get the necessary ingredients.  We found Dodo fishballs from Singapore here - what a win!  Unfortunately the mee pok (yellow, flat noodles) is of a darker shade here and tastes slightly different (maybe a different type of wheat?).  We found fishcakes too. http://delishar.com/2015/12/fishball-noodles-mee-pok-tah.html This is a healthier version of the hawker center'...
