Two of my closest friends here Liandi and Joel are moving back to Australia and because I couldn't make it for their farewell drinks as I am back home, I organised a farewell dinner with a few other close friends last Monday at La Tasca.
Liandi is the first friend I knew in Hillsong 3 years ago. The day I dropped my "Connect Me" details in the box at church, I knew that was taking a first step. :) She got my details and called me asking me to join them for their summer dinner party at London Bridge. I knew no one else and I had convince myself to put on a brave front to meet their dinner party group of about 20 people. I was first captivated by how beautiful she is, and then I soon found out she is so beautiful on the inside too. She knew I was new to London, and would constantly invite me to join her and her girly friends for dinners, movies, baking sessions, and what have you. From her, I got to know her equally amazing sister-in-law Faith, who has also moved back to Aussie-land last year. Joel is another amazing guy who never fails to make me laugh with his funny comments. And so this great couple are my friends and my CG leader for about a year.
Even though they are as sad to leave London after 8 years (more difficult the longer you stay, trust me!), we all know that it is the right time for them to move home, and since Perth is not too far from Singapore, I know I can always go over to visit them when I move back home.
This is the sad fact about London. People come, people go. You have to constantly keep making new friends because the number of people that make London a permanent home are few and far between.
