Brighton is the beach nearest to London and I've never been there even though it's just 1h away by train. I guess UK is not really known for the beach and I wasn't too fussed about it. Every year Hillsong church organises a Baptism Saturday here in summer and still I never made it for one reason or another.
For some weird reason before going, my impression of Brighton was quite a "sixties place". Think a typical British summer.. fish n chips and beer... chilling out on the pebbled beach... the amusement park... candy floss and balloons... people walking around with big hair and big round sunnies wearing bell bottoms hahaha Why this interpretation I don't know!
However, one thing I do know is that if I go there, I want to hunt down the rows of colourful beach huts. Beach huts were a relatively foreign concept to me . It is a small wooden hut, usually painted in bright colours and people buy or rent one to store their beach stuff (BBQ pits, deck chairs, umbrellas, you get the picture). In short, it's a colorful storage hut by the beach. It's too small to sleep in it, plus there are no windows so probably it's not a good idea.
As you can tell, my mission was accomplished. We found the long row of beach huts, and I went trigger happy on my camera and on my phone. My friend K thought I had gone mad.
I am so intrigued by these huts probably due to the bright colours, and they look oh-so-cute-and-pretty. I want to own one someday, and probably paint half of it with the Union Jack and the half a Singapore flag!
Guess what I went home that night and realised that my whole neck area was sun burnt! The sunshine was really strong but didn't seem as strong due to the chilly winds.. I think it's a joke.. to get a sun burn in the UK?

To take advantage of the sunshine, last Saturday I finally trooped down to Brighton Beach with my friends armed with my mission of finding these beach huts. As you can imagine it was packed with people. It was hot yes, but the winds were cold so most of the time, I still needed my cardigan. The atmosphere was great.. there were bands playing, people were chilling out by beach bars having a cold beer, seagulls were flying all over. In the far distance by the pier was the amusement park and kids were having a good time. We were eating ice lollies, and definitely had to have a plate of oily fish n chips for lunch. (But I didn't spot anyone wearing bell bottoms haha)
