New Home: I'm Lovin' It

So it's been more than two weeks since I moved in, and I am lovin' it! I believe my family has been really curious about my new English house as it is so different from my previous flats. This is a proper house with a proper chimney! Also the interior is very country house themed which is beautiful. My housemates (not flatmates now) are as mentioned before, an Irish girl Marcia and an Aussie girl named Rebecca. And the biggest whew I have is that they love clean houses like me! I have a bit of an OCD if you may describe (just a little!) and when I found out they are similar plus they love colour co-ordinating the house, I was going a loud "Hallelujah" within me haha

It has been a big step for me this time, to choose to stay with people I don't know. There were some options for me, but this was a big open door which God opened for me and difficult to say no. Firstly it's in such a quaint little street, almost like a village like what Marcia says. Once you turn into our street, you feel like you've just been transported to the countryside. And oh I love my huge room with lots of storage space (yay), and the rent is almost unimagineable in this area. This is close to the Olympic area (not by Singapore standards) and so rentals are extremely expensive at the moment. I debated over who to flatshare with, and I figured that I would probably not get another chance to stay in a quaint English house with two other girls from other countries. Before I lived with Marketa, I was a lil worried even though she was my friend before I moved in. With my narrow mindset, I wondered if it would be okay staying with a Czech girl. Silly me, because I am so glad I agreed. I learnt so much about her culture, food, way of living (very similar to us Asians actually), and now I guess it's time for a change and so I look forward to hanging out with my new housemates, and we plan to have a night in once or twice a month where we take turns to cook and just hang out. Good times ahead! :)

Enough of talking, some pics to show you guys now!

Our fireplace; our huge sofa with lots of cushions; the little space at our front door, and our huge back garden which is not quite put to good use. Our neighbour has done theirs so nicely transforming into a lovely summer al fresco area.

Kitchen- We cleared out lots of stuff to make some space for a little kitchen counter to have food; Rebecca loves baking and has invested in lots of equipment which matches the kitchen really well.

My comfy bedroom which I drag myself out of bed every morning. Now you understand..

Love our kitchen. And our common bathroom- spot my good ol' Darlie toothpaste! The bathtub is really interesting.

And the last pic for this post. Early Saturday morning I saw this beautiful sunrise from my ahem, toilet. My friend Z commented "wah do morning admin still got such nice view.." hahaha made me wonder for a while what he meant.

Jubilee Weekend | Afternoon Tea Party

http://www.thediamondjubilee.org/ Today is the end of the Jubilee celebrations and how better to end it off than to have an afternoon tea party in the company of friends, while watching the celebrations on our TV.  It has been quite an emotional afternoon, in the good sense of course.  I don't think I've ever seen Queen Elizabeth on TV (and heard the national anthem God Save the Queen) more than these 3 days combined, but this Jubilee weekend has made me grew to love and admire this lady.  She is 86 and reminds me so much of my own granny, and her strength is amazing.  Imagine being sworn in as queen at the age of 26.  (I mean, what was I doing when I was 26?)  On Sunday when she and Prince Philip went onboard the Spirit of Chartwell boat to watch the River Pageant, it was cold and windy but they stood throughout the 3 hours event.  It was said she was offered some hot tea and a seat, which she both said no to.  I love my grandma but ...

Murder Mystery Dinner Party

Two Saturdays ago we were invited to the Kim's for a themed dinner, specifically a Murder Mystery dinner party.  What is that, you might ask.  It was our first time attending such a dinner too, and so how it works is: a group of people attend a dinner party.  Each is assigned a role and will be given a script to read that night.  The aim of the party is to identify a murderer in the midst of us by the end of the night.  The hosts would work off a dinner game set (they got it off Amazon) and it comes with proper invites, setting/ scene, table name cards, scripts and even a suggested menu.  Clearly RX is an Agatha Christie fan. Two weeks beforehand, we received our invites in the postbox, telling us what roles we each have been assigned and the suggested attire (and props if necessary).  Interesting yes? The dinner was to start at 7pm and we were to have 8 people that night.  It's all very mysterious… Our invitation cards assigned K the...

Cooking mee pok dry | bak chor and fishball noodles

When I touched down at Changi airport a few weeks ago, I was very hungry and K suggested grabbing a quick bite at the food court.  I immediately went for the queue at the bak chor (minced pork) noodles stall.  This one dish is very local and we simply can't find it here.  London's Chinatown has a few Malaysian restaurants with fried kway teow, chicken rice, laksa, etc but there is no authentic fishball noodles or minced pork noodles. When my friend Corinne shared this link last week, I was intrigued and I didn't know K was too.  He suggested going to the Asian supermarket on Sunday to get the necessary ingredients.  We found Dodo fishballs from Singapore here - what a win!  Unfortunately the mee pok (yellow, flat noodles) is of a darker shade here and tastes slightly different (maybe a different type of wheat?).  We found fishcakes too. http://delishar.com/2015/12/fishball-noodles-mee-pok-tah.html This is a healthier version of the hawker center'...
