Gong Xi Fa Cai everyone!
To be honest, it has been like a family gathering affair everyday since I arrived (I know, lucky me :) ) so tonight's reunion dinner is not much different, except that the food is more sumptuous - big thanks to ah ma. 88 years old and still going strong. Hallelujah! - and my uncle whom I don't see very often, is here tonight to join us. After dinner, the usual happens.. the family led by my brother is once again playing our favourite card game.. and later, my aunt will be displaying the tray of sweets and the tins of new year goodies on the table to welcome guests for the next two days. And we will be receiving red packets from my dad and grandma hehehe Of course the TV is on and later the usual annual TCS 8 countdown show will start. The novelty for this show has worn off years ago but nonetheless it will always be on our TV. And we know there is a high chance we will be watching the repeat telecast (yawn) of this at our uncle's place tomorrow.
Weather report here- it has been raining heavily these past two days! Lightning and thunder.. massive downpour even causing traffic lights to break down! My brother drove me to meet The Girls (& now The Guys too) for dinner last night and we encountered 3 sets of faulty traffic lights. I got a bit scared looking at the cars zooming past us in the heavy rain and looked at him meekly "eh bro, what should we do?" And he looked at me with both hands tightly on the steering wheel "We have to be brave." and proceeded to inch out slowly. haha what a moment.
Nowadays I don't take too many photos on my trips home. I prefer to enjoy the moments with my friends and family more than being an over zealous tourist back home. Now I prefer to have the feeling of easing back into my life and meeting up with people like I do if I were back home... hmm a sign of growing old? No idea. *shrugs*
Today before church, I went to Chinatown for breakfast with my brother, Denise and K, and managed to take some photos. I didn't realise that our Chinatown is so colourful and can provide beautiful backdrops! With no proper camera on me, I had to make do with my iphone. But hey, not bad I think :)
And last of all, let me share my favourite photo. We were in the sweltering heat walking amongst the stalls.. and I was taking random photos of this stall selling traditional CNY couplets. When I got home and looked through at the photos I took, I was amazed and surprised to see this:
How amazing isn't it?! I was so shocked I showed it to everyone at home and they were saying we should have bought them to paste it on our wall at home. What a pity but a very pleasant surprise nonetheless! Not very traditional couplets are they?! Has anyone seen them before?
