Our Engagement Photoshoot (Part 1)

I love the community in my church.  Not only do I know Karlin who made my ring, and Rebecca my housemate who makes suits, next there is Liezel who takes fantastic photographs.  Unbeknownst to me, Liezel whom I met in my very first connect group, has been praying for God to open doors for her to take photographs professionally.  And I had no idea why I thought about her considering I don't hang out with her much.  Hmm must be God.  I was somewhat prompted to text her after looking at the many beautiful pictures she posts on Facebook, asking if she would like to take some engagement photos for us.  K and I didn't mind being her muse (or muses - is there such a word??).  Initially I thought I was being cheeky to ask for such a big favour from someone whom I don't know very well.  Turns out she was so happy and said yes immediately.  Oh wow - hallelujah!  I love the fact that we are both helping each other and it's such a God thing.  Last Sunday, she took so many amazing photos for us, and went around with us the whole day from extreme West London to Central London.  Whilst I kept thanking her, she thanked us instead, for giving her a chance to start building her portfolio.  I love it!

The week before the photoshoot, I had emailed her with the many ideas I had in my head.  I told her I love the art installation of phone boxes in Kingston which I always see on postcards.  Then I told her I had a picnic basket and would love to have some picnic shots.  Next I told her St. Paul's Cathedral means a lot to both K and I.  We used to meet at the steps of St. Paul's after work when I was still working in the city.  I thought all my ideas were great, but overall too ambitious.  Guess what, Liezel said we should do ALL of them!  Wow really?  Even I was scared! haha

I took a week to collect and buy my props, not counting the picnic basket which I already bought a few months back, waiting patiently for summer to come so I could use it.  I bought one small chalkboard, and an even smaller one.  And literally felt like back in school when I used the chalk to write and draw doodles.  I was all excited about the picnic shoot!

And on the reverse side I wrote this!
I am getting good at this! :)

Last Sunday, we started a very long drive to Kingston Upon Thames, in the western part of London.  Well we were told it was more of Surrey than London.  The drive took longer than expected and I felt so bad for letting her wait so long for us.  The weather - I tell you the weather - was so beautiful it was unbelievable.  It was an answered prayer considering it was raining non stop for the past 2 weeks.  We would be lucky to get no rain, not to mention blue skies and sunshine!

Alright enough of talking, let me start the pictures rolling.

1) Kingston Upon Thames

2) Richmond Park, with the glorious sunshine

This was our second time to Richmond Park and this place is massive.  Lots of woodlands and free roaming deer.  We went into the Isabelle Plantation, which is this gated section with special plants and trees; gated because they don't want the deer to destroy anything.  Because it's so big, it was easy to find an area just for ourselves.  We bought some sandwiches and fruits from M&S, and had a real picnic first before starting the photoshoot.

It was so fun!  And with my love for bunting, being influenced by the English culture here, I bought a beautiful flower and birds bunting which Liezel said we could hang it behind us!

zzzz...

Liezel said "Do something cute with the sign, like peek through the "O"!"

This was a natural shot.  We were chatting about... I can't remember.

Some bubbly to celebrate!

Bubbly goes with strawberries

Cheeky look

Love all my props!!  Brought in the flowers from my colleagues too, which fitted in perfectly.

Liezel was such an excited photographer seeing all the girly props.  I suggested we could do a joint venture:  I could supply props and she can be the photographer for her future business :)

A peek behind the scenes..

Hope you enjoyed this post as much as I had writing it :)
Next up, the continuation of the shoot at St Paul's Cathedral!

Murder Mystery Dinner Party

Two Saturdays ago we were invited to the Kim's for a themed dinner, specifically a Murder Mystery dinner party.  What is that, you might ask.  It was our first time attending such a dinner too, and so how it works is: a group of people attend a dinner party.  Each is assigned a role and will be given a script to read that night.  The aim of the party is to identify a murderer in the midst of us by the end of the night.  The hosts would work off a dinner game set (they got it off Amazon) and it comes with proper invites, setting/ scene, table name cards, scripts and even a suggested menu.  Clearly RX is an Agatha Christie fan. Two weeks beforehand, we received our invites in the postbox, telling us what roles we each have been assigned and the suggested attire (and props if necessary).  Interesting yes? The dinner was to start at 7pm and we were to have 8 people that night.  It's all very mysterious… Our invitation cards assigned K the...

Cooking mee pok dry | bak chor and fishball noodles

When I touched down at Changi airport a few weeks ago, I was very hungry and K suggested grabbing a quick bite at the food court.  I immediately went for the queue at the bak chor (minced pork) noodles stall.  This one dish is very local and we simply can't find it here.  London's Chinatown has a few Malaysian restaurants with fried kway teow, chicken rice, laksa, etc but there is no authentic fishball noodles or minced pork noodles. When my friend Corinne shared this link last week, I was intrigued and I didn't know K was too.  He suggested going to the Asian supermarket on Sunday to get the necessary ingredients.  We found Dodo fishballs from Singapore here - what a win!  Unfortunately the mee pok (yellow, flat noodles) is of a darker shade here and tastes slightly different (maybe a different type of wheat?).  We found fishcakes too. http://delishar.com/2015/12/fishball-noodles-mee-pok-tah.html This is a healthier version of the hawker center'...

Memories made at Danson Park

I can't believe I still have readers to this dormant blog!  Thank you for coming back again :) In case you didn't know, our little family of four actually flew back to the UK together for the first time last November.  For me, I've been back twice with Izzy, and poor Gabriel kept asking when could he go back to London.  Finally K said we should take the trip together and also drive around northern France, our fav area to visit.  Well fav, in that it is very easy to get to from the UK and we have really grown to like the more rural parts of Brittany. I grabbed the chance to contact Joanne, who took some photos of the kids previously.  In fact I think she has seen my kids grow up, from taking Christmas photos to family photos. We were pressed for time and I had to do some convincing for K to agree to do this shoot... looking at the photos, glad i insisted on doing it.  More to document kids growing up well.. and us growing old  I plan to blog more about ...
