Married for the second time (to the same guy!)

Love this pic taken by Cindy

We are back!  The past two weeks literally zoomed past and we find ourselves back in London now, where - may I add - the weather has changed oh-too-soon.  When we left it was summer temperatures and now it's like autumn has set it.

Yep, I have got married again, this time the Chinese wedding dinner.  We had decided to do the whole routine too, which included Kian coming to fetch the bride with his band of brothers in the morning, and I had support from my team of amazing sisters.  We girls met up a few days before the big day to discuss what games should we play for the "gate-crashing" and yes even though we have been married for two months now, we all agreed we should still have the whole works just for the fun of it.  (Even though K kind of disagreed saying he is too old for such things.  Overruled, sorry. lol)  I even had some special guests whom i had invited to join in for the fun, which included Min and her girl Charis, as well as gungho Michelle.

No hard feelings now whatsoever but can I be brutally honest here?  It has been a really tough "project" as with every Chinese couple might find planning their wedding.  When we told our friends in London we are doing the Chinese one "for our families", I didn't think I got the full extent of what that meant even though the words were rolling off my tongue.  Maybe I'm a control freak, or maybe I'm way too responsible in taking ownership, but not having full control of my wedding just wound me up so much.  At work, whenever there is a project which I am in charge of, I am required to own it - I'm supposed to plan, delegate and execute it.  Sure, there is a team and teamwork is involved, but if I own the project, I am responsible for its success.  How not to apply the same mentality when this is my wedding?  Honestly I found it really tough.  K laughs and says he will record this down but I told him if we should have kids in the future, I promise not to interfere in their wedding because it is their wedding, not ours.  And I will not insist on inviting my own friends to their wedding.  And retain only sensible Chinese traditions please.  You can probably imagine I'm extremely relieved that it is over now and the light at the end of the tunnel has come - woohoo!

Back to happy stuff now!

Me and my bridesmaids, ready to welcome the guys hoho

Special guests: Min & Charis who was super cute!  (but seemed scared of me... why?)

You might be interested in the "gatecrashing" games we played that morning.  My sisters and I agreed on the rule: no degrading games.  When we say "degrading", I remember clearly seeing this pic of a friend's wedding where the sisters smeared melted chocolate on some babies' diapers and the groom and his brothers were asked to lick off the chocolate, one diaper after another.  Sure, it's chocolate but the act of having to lick off brown gooey stuff off babies diapers just seems so wrong, don't you think?  Anyways, with 7 awesome girl brains put together, this was what we got for my gatecrash:

1) The welcome drink.  When the groom and brothers arrived, they will be greeted by the girls and be given a welcome drink each that looks green and not very appealing.  The girls would have mixed this drink specially for them, a concoction of various fruit juices.  They are very kind because in actual fact, it is quite a nice tasty drink, just don't be deterred by the green colour (kiwi, that's why!). Playing on their minds, they would probably think it's some disgusting wasabi juice or something and gulp it down really quickly.  Then comes the question: please identify 5 fruits in the drink you just washed down your throat.  We even had a very professional fruit poster done by Cindy to help them. Lol.  Super funny.  Bet the question really came by surprise.

"Yum seng!"

K admitted it was the anticipation which resulted in this reaction.
He said it actually tasted quite nice on hindsight.
Told him my sisters have kind souls lol

2) Poses.  Because we know the guys would not have answered the earlier question correctly, the next game (or forfeit) is for them to pose according to some pictures we have prepared for them.  Again, very pro looking posters from Cindy.

Guys, please study the picture carefully...

hahaha K looks so cute here

I wish I have the "To this" pic for this one.  From my room, I could only hear K screaming eagerly "I will pose the bra-showing girl!"  Apparently I hear he embraced each game with gusto and enthusiasm.  I think all of them did to be fair.

3) Guessing body parts.  I love this game.  During my dinner with the girls, we took some photos and thanks to iPhone and a very useful app, we could come up with this.  Again, big thanks to Cindy for the pro looking poster.  She was in the midst of a huge project and still, ever so dedicated as my jiemei.

Liwen asking them "which is Bel's eye?"

Make a guess!
Which is my eye?  We thought this was a giveaway.

What about my ear??
We girls couldn't guess whose ear is it.. and K actually got it right!  3rd pic.  Applause.

lol which is Bel's thumb?  K got it wrong for this as he didn't know when did we take this photo, before or after my manicure.  Answer: 3rd pic.

Yes which elbow is Bel's??  Due to time constraint, the girls skipped this one.
Out of curiosity,  I asked K after the wedding and no joke, he guessed it correctly (the fourth pic).
All I can say is.. I married the right guy!!

4) Acting out a scene from Meteor Garden.  This was originally Zhu's idea: for the girls to identify a scene or two from some drama show, and asking the guys to reenact it out.  We girls were a little crazy over Meteor Garden during our uni days, and so we picked a scene from the drama.  Corinne even went to buy some pleats for them to wear as props.  I don't have any good photo for this game, but it was hilarious.  Nicely assigned, K was the main lead in the show, Dao Ming Si... my hero.

And finally, the guys were allowed to enter and K could finally see his bride.

Thought I'd share an interesting post of the gatecrashing games today.  There will be another post more about the day overall and the sequence of events... coming up soon :).

Murder Mystery Dinner Party

Two Saturdays ago we were invited to the Kim's for a themed dinner, specifically a Murder Mystery dinner party.  What is that, you might ask.  It was our first time attending such a dinner too, and so how it works is: a group of people attend a dinner party.  Each is assigned a role and will be given a script to read that night.  The aim of the party is to identify a murderer in the midst of us by the end of the night.  The hosts would work off a dinner game set (they got it off Amazon) and it comes with proper invites, setting/ scene, table name cards, scripts and even a suggested menu.  Clearly RX is an Agatha Christie fan. Two weeks beforehand, we received our invites in the postbox, telling us what roles we each have been assigned and the suggested attire (and props if necessary).  Interesting yes? The dinner was to start at 7pm and we were to have 8 people that night.  It's all very mysterious… Our invitation cards assigned K the...

Cooking mee pok dry | bak chor and fishball noodles

When I touched down at Changi airport a few weeks ago, I was very hungry and K suggested grabbing a quick bite at the food court.  I immediately went for the queue at the bak chor (minced pork) noodles stall.  This one dish is very local and we simply can't find it here.  London's Chinatown has a few Malaysian restaurants with fried kway teow, chicken rice, laksa, etc but there is no authentic fishball noodles or minced pork noodles. When my friend Corinne shared this link last week, I was intrigued and I didn't know K was too.  He suggested going to the Asian supermarket on Sunday to get the necessary ingredients.  We found Dodo fishballs from Singapore here - what a win!  Unfortunately the mee pok (yellow, flat noodles) is of a darker shade here and tastes slightly different (maybe a different type of wheat?).  We found fishcakes too. http://delishar.com/2015/12/fishball-noodles-mee-pok-tah.html This is a healthier version of the hawker center'...

Memories made at Danson Park

I can't believe I still have readers to this dormant blog!  Thank you for coming back again :) In case you didn't know, our little family of four actually flew back to the UK together for the first time last November.  For me, I've been back twice with Izzy, and poor Gabriel kept asking when could he go back to London.  Finally K said we should take the trip together and also drive around northern France, our fav area to visit.  Well fav, in that it is very easy to get to from the UK and we have really grown to like the more rural parts of Brittany. I grabbed the chance to contact Joanne, who took some photos of the kids previously.  In fact I think she has seen my kids grow up, from taking Christmas photos to family photos. We were pressed for time and I had to do some convincing for K to agree to do this shoot... looking at the photos, glad i insisted on doing it.  More to document kids growing up well.. and us growing old  I plan to blog more about ...
