Getting crafty once in a while… for Christmas

I love it that Christmas lasts for 12 days so it doesn't feel like it has zoomed past.  Although it pretty much feels so already!

I've been trying to keep mum about this until everyone on my list has received their Christmas cards from us.  I tried doing our own Christmas cards this year! *beaming Bel*

Tada!!

See what happened back in October was… I received a text from my ex-housemate Rebecca one fine day saying she was hosting a Stamping Party with her sister Amy.  She said she would bake some cakes and it would be a fun girly afternoon.  It sounded fun so my text back to her was "sure, count me in!  Umm btw what is a Stamp Party?" (haha not knowing what it was but say yes first)  She said we would be getting crafty and it is "quite you" and "you will enjoy it".  Right, convinced already.

I turned up and oh no.. the few girls she invited all dropped out one by one and it turned out to just me, her sister Amy and Rebecca!  I felt quite bad for her but she didn't mind.  Even better I had like two to one coaching.  So the idea is... if you know of a typical Tupperware party, this is something similar, just that the stuff sold here are all scrapbooking/ stamping products.  "Welcome to the world of stamping, baby!"  I looked at the catalogue and all the stuff are from this American company called Stampin' Up.  Rebecca spent about a hundred quid to kickstart her stamping collection and to host stamping parties.  Her sister caught on this card making hobby a few years ago and I have to say when we were housemates, I used to marvel at all the handmade cards she received from her sister.  Wow so this is where she gets her inspiration, ideas and products from!  They showed me how I could do a beautiful card from scratch - using rubber stamps (thousands of templates you can choose from their catalogue), shapes, techniques, etc.. it was indeed the sort of stuff I like!  Gosh I felt like I wanted to buy everything.  (Which is not wise because they are not cheap!)

Actually I did hesitate because I said I am not sure if I can come up with such beautiful cards Amy makes and of course, they say practice makes perfect.. and with the holiday season coming up, I could give it a try by doing my own Christmas cards.  It did make sense to me and so I told her I would be keen to do that, but please help me choose the basic stuff I need, as I don't wish to spend too much money.  Which turned out to be like GBP64 in total… although I know I can always reuse the stamps and ink pads, etc.  Plus I know I was helping Rebecca to earn a little bit of commission by me buying them through her.

And so two weeks before Christmas, amid the frenzy of work and packing for Germany (more to come), I had to burn some midnight oil to make these cards. But I didn't mind it one bit :) cos I love doing such things!

In the making

Very first one done, even I was surprised by how it turned out.  The ribbon makes all the difference!

If this hobby takes off, I can possibly host a party at mine and invite Rebecca to lead the demo etc, and apparently I can get to enjoy some discount on my next purchase, etc.  Hmm let's see how it develops.

Murder Mystery Dinner Party

Two Saturdays ago we were invited to the Kim's for a themed dinner, specifically a Murder Mystery dinner party.  What is that, you might ask.  It was our first time attending such a dinner too, and so how it works is: a group of people attend a dinner party.  Each is assigned a role and will be given a script to read that night.  The aim of the party is to identify a murderer in the midst of us by the end of the night.  The hosts would work off a dinner game set (they got it off Amazon) and it comes with proper invites, setting/ scene, table name cards, scripts and even a suggested menu.  Clearly RX is an Agatha Christie fan. Two weeks beforehand, we received our invites in the postbox, telling us what roles we each have been assigned and the suggested attire (and props if necessary).  Interesting yes? The dinner was to start at 7pm and we were to have 8 people that night.  It's all very mysterious… Our invitation cards assigned K the...

Cooking mee pok dry | bak chor and fishball noodles

When I touched down at Changi airport a few weeks ago, I was very hungry and K suggested grabbing a quick bite at the food court.  I immediately went for the queue at the bak chor (minced pork) noodles stall.  This one dish is very local and we simply can't find it here.  London's Chinatown has a few Malaysian restaurants with fried kway teow, chicken rice, laksa, etc but there is no authentic fishball noodles or minced pork noodles. When my friend Corinne shared this link last week, I was intrigued and I didn't know K was too.  He suggested going to the Asian supermarket on Sunday to get the necessary ingredients.  We found Dodo fishballs from Singapore here - what a win!  Unfortunately the mee pok (yellow, flat noodles) is of a darker shade here and tastes slightly different (maybe a different type of wheat?).  We found fishcakes too. http://delishar.com/2015/12/fishball-noodles-mee-pok-tah.html This is a healthier version of the hawker center'...

Our Seoul Adventure (Part 1)

Gosh life has been non-stop since coming back from Seoul.  Work has been very busy, and then Izzy had stomach flu and I was a bit under the weather too.  With this, one month just zoomed passed. Been meaning to continue our Seoul adventure. Day One To be honest we had a rocky start on the first day.  Our 2am flight was delayed till 3am and we were super groggy when we got on the plane.  Kids were sleeping and we had to wake them up.  The stewardess served us food at 4am and we had no appetite whatsoever.  Made worse by the turbulence which scared us so much.  I think in total we each slept about 4h that night.  So thankful that our kids love traveling and did not whine, but i did feel like i floated out of that plane into Incheon airport.  My original plan for Day One was to explore the palace area, have the famous ginseng chicken soup, and then visit the Bukchon hanok village.  Followed by a nice Korean BBQ for dinner.  The mo...
