Staying at Spillers Farm was an eye opener on how a real farm operates. The owner Keith and his wife own a small farm with animals for self subsistence. They currently have ducks, chickens, 8 sheep, 2 pigs, a plot of different vegetables and another plot for fruits such as berries which are in season now. He allowed us to roam freely on his farm, only mentioning for us to be careful with the sheep. If the fence is not closed properly they might get lost and wander into the pond area and fall in. He did say, however, that his sheep are really friendly. (Because they think we have food for them. lol.)

Keith explained that he and his family will not consume any meat which is not from his farm. They used to live in London and after years of working in the city, the lure from the simple and peaceful countryside became more appealing and hence they relocated. Today they run a working farm, rearing their own animals, growing their own food and vegetables. He used to kill his own animals like his chickens but he had a accident once slicing off a piece of skin from his thumb and he decided to send it to a local abattoir to have them killed and then delivered back. The same goes for his pigs. He feeds them and after a few months, he would do the same by sending them to the abattoir. He is particular about how animals are killed and says that if a pig is stressed upon being killed, the meat is not as tasty. Speaking like a connoisseur indeed. And I didn't like the conversation too much about all the killing business.. sadly the 8 cute lambs will become lamb chops by the end of August he said. So sad!!
One thing about sheep which he said was that sheep are defenceless. They are - in his words - stupid animals and constantly need his protection. He says that he has never seen such animals before - if they are well, all is fine; but if something goes wrong, the sheep can die very easily. Which is why he needs to look out for them more often than the other animals on his farm. Wow can I say I had my minute of revelation there and then. There is a reason why Jesus refers to us as His sheep and He is our shepherd. We need to depend on Him constantly in our lives and we know that He is our good shepherd. I wouldn't necessarily use the word "stupid" on us like farmer Keith, but I would say we really need Him to be in our lives. We cannot survive well without our shepherd. Some truth over there!

We bade Keith and wife goodbye after breakfast, and drove to Lyme Regis which was recommended by my ex manager Mark, and thought we would do a passing through and move to another town. Guess what - we loved this coastal town so much that we decided to spend the rest of our day here.

We walked along the coast, and there were shops and restaurants lining the seafront. We chose a reasonably nice restaurant and settled lunch there - fish and chips no less. Seriously we sat there for such a long time we were a little embarrassed after that. The sun was shining and there were so many people on the beach. We found this stretch of pastel coloured beach huts on the beach and I went a little crazy over them :)

And thus begins the long drive back to London (poor JX). As it was the World Cup final that evening, it seemed like all the cars were trying to head towards London before the game started. Probably people like us - rushing back to catch the game. At some point there was a traffic jam and we wondered why. And then we saw. Stonehenge! Right in front of us. We snapped a few pics quickly and moved on. See the thing with this mysterious site is that as amazing as they are (no disrespect to them stones), to pay like GBP14 for an entry ticket which enables you to just walk round it, we think we just saved GBP56 between all 4 of us.
