Blessed 91st Birthday Mama!

We celebrated two birthdays in a span of 2 weeks back in Singapore.  Let me blog them in chronological order.

K and I touched down on Saturday 7th March and on the 8th March, we celebrated my dear grandma's 91st birthday.  You would already know by now she's like my mum and I love and respect the matriach of our family.  She is like the glue of the family, although it can be said that the latest contender for this title "glue of the family" is also baby Sarah.  My brother joked with me saying she has a fan club.  I soon saw the power of this fan club at grandma's birthday dinner ;).

Battling jet lag, both K and I went for the dinner at Asia Grand Restaurant.  We were there celebrating grandma's 90th last year (K couldn't fly back then so he joined via Facetime for a quick call).  Lacking better ideas on venue for this year, I suggested going back since the food is good.  It was special because one year ago Sarah was in Denise's womb and it was there that my brother announced to the family she was 3 months pregnant.  Fast forward 365 days there we saw God's miracle in the same room, the apple of everyone's eye.  Even the Chinese waitress remembered us.  What a coincidence that she was also serving us the second year running!

Once we entered our private dining room, everyone said hi to both K and me, before I realised that all eyes were on the sleeping baby Sarah, eagerly waiting for her to wake up from her nap.  The power of the fan club has started.  Sarah aside, it was a good opportunity to see the extended family all at once.  Some pictures to share of the night:

K and I bought her a birthday present - a replica of her Singer sewing machine at home.

We also shared a big bouquet for her

Sarah just woke up wondering what's going on with all the singing and clapping

Once Sarah woke up, everyone was so eager to carry her and couldn't stop cooing and making baby noises to attract her attention.  For a moment it felt like it's her birthday!  She is a friendly baby so she didn't mind all the attention one bit.  (She's known at her infant care as the happy baby, bless her!)

We sang the traditional Happy Birthday song followed by "May the good Lord bless you" in the same tune.

Blessed birthday again mama.  We all love you very much and it's such a blessing to have you as our grandma.  I still remember her teaching me my ABCs when I was a toddler and everyone else at home was at work.  She was the one who picked me up from kindergarten and I remember us running/crossing that huge road everyday.  She has taught us - kids and grandkids alike - many values in life.  Ever since I moved to London, she has given me many food recipes.  She seems to know everything?!

Seeing her strong and healthy at this age is a testament of God's blessing and His promise of renewing her youth like the eagle's (we also claim this blessing - amen!).  May He grant to you so much more - health, peace and joy all the days of your life.

Jubilee Weekend | Afternoon Tea Party

http://www.thediamondjubilee.org/ Today is the end of the Jubilee celebrations and how better to end it off than to have an afternoon tea party in the company of friends, while watching the celebrations on our TV.  It has been quite an emotional afternoon, in the good sense of course.  I don't think I've ever seen Queen Elizabeth on TV (and heard the national anthem God Save the Queen) more than these 3 days combined, but this Jubilee weekend has made me grew to love and admire this lady.  She is 86 and reminds me so much of my own granny, and her strength is amazing.  Imagine being sworn in as queen at the age of 26.  (I mean, what was I doing when I was 26?)  On Sunday when she and Prince Philip went onboard the Spirit of Chartwell boat to watch the River Pageant, it was cold and windy but they stood throughout the 3 hours event.  It was said she was offered some hot tea and a seat, which she both said no to.  I love my grandma but I have to say I don't think

Sleep, baby sleep

I had an idea to blog about Isabelle's sleep behaviour the other day.  Before having Isabelle, I had not the slightest idea how big the sleep topic is for a baby, and now a toddler.  I merely assumed that babies will sleep, no matter what, right?  Because they are tired right?  No, of course not.  Isabelle showed me how much she could and can fight sleep even when she is tired.  As a new mum, I did not know how to read her sleepy signs, and more often than not, she would be overtired by the time I catch her signs and by then she is cranky and crying.  Oh the tears.  From Isabelle and mummy. The early months Sleep has always been an issue for me when Isabelle was born.  She cried non stop every evening for hours on end, and we had no idea what to do with her.  Colic was the word most used on such babies, and everyone comforted us that this difficult phase would be over within 3 months.  I still remembered uttering "3 months?!" under my breath.  Not 3 weeks?

Murder Mystery Dinner Party

Two Saturdays ago we were invited to the Kim's for a themed dinner, specifically a Murder Mystery dinner party.  What is that, you might ask.  It was our first time attending such a dinner too, and so how it works is: a group of people attend a dinner party.  Each is assigned a role and will be given a script to read that night.  The aim of the party is to identify a murderer in the midst of us by the end of the night.  The hosts would work off a dinner game set (they got it off Amazon) and it comes with proper invites, setting/ scene, table name cards, scripts and even a suggested menu.  Clearly RX is an Agatha Christie fan. Two weeks beforehand, we received our invites in the postbox, telling us what roles we each have been assigned and the suggested attire (and props if necessary).  Interesting yes? The dinner was to start at 7pm and we were to have 8 people that night.  It's all very mysterious… Our invitation cards assigned K the role of Monsieur Bertrand, a f
