Our Halloween Weekend

We've had a fun filled weekend but let's go back a few Saturdays ago when we visited a farm and got us some pumpkins.

This was a 9kg pumpkin

Pumpkins galore

We bought two smallish sized ones

Not easy trying to lift these up!

We invited some friends over yesterday for a home cooked dinner.  Alas one of the pumpkins turned bad and so we had one left for carving last night.  We cooked up a storm in the kitchen, thanks to contributions from various friends.

Our spread!  From top: duck spring rolls, octopus tako-pachi balls courtesy of Rachel,  Cottage Chicken courtesy of CY, (in the big wok) is K's 'pride and joy' chicken dish, yet in another big pot (covered) is Rachel's clams and seaweed soup, and lastly I cooked the bottom two dishes - simple veg and a prawn and tofu dish

One pic before tucking in!

We've got seriously talented friends here because not only did we have octopus tako-pachi balls from Rachel, the Kim's turned up with homemade - ang ku kuehs! In line with the Halloween theme no less, they were coloured in orange.  *cue applause

Homemade ang ku kuehs filled with peanut paste

All things orange here

We proceeded to carve our pumpkin

Done!

The Kim's

Our last guests left close to 1am cos the conversations just went on and on.  So fun!  Amongst us we have two camps - royalists and anti-royalists and so it's always quite interesting to hear two points of view.

Clocks moved forward by an hour this past Sunday night too, and so that meant an extra hour's sleep for us, woop woop.

Sunday morning we woke up to a very foggy morning and I took two snaps of our garden.  They turned out to be how I had always imagined England to be.  i.e. foggy!

how different our garden looks now that we have transitioned from summer

A peek into our neighbour's garden, and we couldn't see anything beyond those trees

We had lots of leftover food from last night, enough to last our lunch and dinner for today.  So nice to be able to take a break from cooking sometimes :)  We had lunch and lazed on the couch, wondering where we could do a short afternoon walk.  Get out and have some fresh, crisp air.

We both started googling and because K didn't want to drive for more than 30min each way, we settled for two places not far from each other.  The first was Joydon's Woods which, going by its name, is woodlands with many trees (think Enid Blyton's Enchanted Wood) whereas the other was Swanley Park.  They are within 6min drive of each other and so we decided to visit both.  K started to pack a little snack bag for us and set the kettle to boil so we could bring a small flask of coffee with us.  Ooh excited already!

Arriving at the woods

Which direction?  Would I see toadstools sprouting up in the clearing?

No toadstools or brownies but there was a sign describing the history of this place, which dates back to 1,500 years ago!

We walked for about 30min then sat down to have some snacks.  We saw families with dogs having their afternoon walk but it was quiet generally.  Just us and the trees.

We arrived at Swanley Park 6min later which was so beautiful with it's hues of yellow, brown and green.  So much fallen leaves on the ground.  There weren't too many people either and so we walked a little and sat on a bench.

Never tire of autumn, I say!

A very fulfilling weekend spent with friends and my loved one.

Jubilee Weekend | Afternoon Tea Party

http://www.thediamondjubilee.org/ Today is the end of the Jubilee celebrations and how better to end it off than to have an afternoon tea party in the company of friends, while watching the celebrations on our TV.  It has been quite an emotional afternoon, in the good sense of course.  I don't think I've ever seen Queen Elizabeth on TV (and heard the national anthem God Save the Queen) more than these 3 days combined, but this Jubilee weekend has made me grew to love and admire this lady.  She is 86 and reminds me so much of my own granny, and her strength is amazing.  Imagine being sworn in as queen at the age of 26.  (I mean, what was I doing when I was 26?)  On Sunday when she and Prince Philip went onboard the Spirit of Chartwell boat to watch the River Pageant, it was cold and windy but they stood throughout the 3 hours event.  It was said she was offered some hot tea and a seat, which she both said no to.  I love my grandma but I have to say I don't think

Sleep, baby sleep

I had an idea to blog about Isabelle's sleep behaviour the other day.  Before having Isabelle, I had not the slightest idea how big the sleep topic is for a baby, and now a toddler.  I merely assumed that babies will sleep, no matter what, right?  Because they are tired right?  No, of course not.  Isabelle showed me how much she could and can fight sleep even when she is tired.  As a new mum, I did not know how to read her sleepy signs, and more often than not, she would be overtired by the time I catch her signs and by then she is cranky and crying.  Oh the tears.  From Isabelle and mummy. The early months Sleep has always been an issue for me when Isabelle was born.  She cried non stop every evening for hours on end, and we had no idea what to do with her.  Colic was the word most used on such babies, and everyone comforted us that this difficult phase would be over within 3 months.  I still remembered uttering "3 months?!" under my breath.  Not 3 weeks?

Murder Mystery Dinner Party

Two Saturdays ago we were invited to the Kim's for a themed dinner, specifically a Murder Mystery dinner party.  What is that, you might ask.  It was our first time attending such a dinner too, and so how it works is: a group of people attend a dinner party.  Each is assigned a role and will be given a script to read that night.  The aim of the party is to identify a murderer in the midst of us by the end of the night.  The hosts would work off a dinner game set (they got it off Amazon) and it comes with proper invites, setting/ scene, table name cards, scripts and even a suggested menu.  Clearly RX is an Agatha Christie fan. Two weeks beforehand, we received our invites in the postbox, telling us what roles we each have been assigned and the suggested attire (and props if necessary).  Interesting yes? The dinner was to start at 7pm and we were to have 8 people that night.  It's all very mysterious… Our invitation cards assigned K the role of Monsieur Bertrand, a f
