One of the main reasons why we chose to return to Brittany is because of Dinan. We came here four years ago and fell in love with this medieval town. The buildings are very well preserved and it's just a beautiful little town.
It was here four years ago that we stumbled upon this English sounding restaurant called Le Canterbury and we loved the food here. For our wedding anniversary lunch, hubby booked us a table here in advance. We stepped into this little restaurant and it was the same as how we remembered it to be. I even remembered where we sat exactly! The food was delicious and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We took it easy in Dinan that afternoon, especially with intermittent showers, we couldn't do much.

As it was Thursday, it was also their market day,
which they convert the biggest carpark in town to be the market place. There we saw vendors selling fresh food,
cooked food, clothes and shoes (really reminded us of pasar malams, or night
markets back home in Singapore). It was
an interesting sight to behold, to mingle amongst the locals.

We walked about and took some photos along the way.

For dinner, hubby wanted to bring me to Le Cantine,
the place which we couldn't get a table four years ago. I know, we are nostalgic like that. It is still rated as the top restaurant on
Trip Advisor btw. Our hotel managed to
help us book a table for 7pm that evening and so we went. It was a small and cosy restaurant, with only
seven or eight tables filled that evening.
There wasn't even a second sitting.
We noticed that there was only one waiter taking orders and serving so
when he came over with our menu and translated it to us, we asked if there was
any other waiter helping him. Turns out
he co-owns this restaurant with his brother who is the chef. Ah je vais.. K mentioned that he could tell
the chef really took pride in his dishes because they were served beautifully
and tasted delish.

Every restaurant we went into would bring a menu on a blackboard to your table. This is because most of them have a daily changing menu. How interesting. |

We chatted with the waiter and told him our
situation four years ago; of us being disappointed when we were turned
away. It was incredibly busy and still
is. He smiled and said he was glad we
didn't give up. They have opened this
restaurant for six years now and clearly it is going strong. Naturally we were the only non French diners
in that small restaurant that night, which drew some curious stares. We also told him it was our fourth wedding
anniversary that day to which he thanked us for the honour.

Surprise sparklers |
Later
when he would bring out our desserts, he surprised us with sparklers which put
us into the limelight amongst the diners again.
What a nice gesture. Merci
beaucoup! He bade us goodbye after we
paid our bill and said he hopes to see us again, in four years' time.
It was drizzling again when we left the restaurant. On the hurried walk back to our hotel we saw this wonky building at a road junction. Immediately it reminded me of Belle's home (from Beauty and the Beast). Don't you think?
