Isabelle Sophia | 8 months

Wow our little munchkin is now 8 months old!  Can't believe it.  I can still recall this tiny being screaming and crying when she was a newborn, rendering us clueless.. and now Isabelle is generally a happy baby.  Except when she is hungry.  Or hangry as they call it these days (hungry + angry).

A couple of milestones and special mentions in the past one month

  • Crawl.  And by this I mean fast crawling.  She started crawling towards the end of 6 months.  By 8 months she is now a pro.  Changing her is a very big challenge.  You gotta sing, coax, do whatever it takes to stop her from flipping over and crawling away stark naked.
  • Sleeping by herself in her own cot in her nursery at the beginning of 7 months.
  • Prop herself up on furniture.  Standing up supported, and with both feet firm and stable on the ground.  I suspect if we get her a walker she will be walking in no time.
  • Clap her hands.  This was pretty amazing.  One morning last week she woke up and I caught her clapping her hands in her cot.  The actions were a little bit awkward, as she was trying to hit both palms together and soon she got it.  She loves to clap her hands now in glee.
  • Separation anxiety.  This isn't necessarily a milestone but I have realised she has separation anxiety.  She needs to see me near her, else she will not be happy and break into this really sad but loud cry.
  • She loves to eat bread these days.  I would put little bites in her mouth and they will be gone in seconds.
  • Growing well.  She's 8 months but outgrowing her 6-9 month clothes!  I can't really keep up with her wardrobe, and with the changing seasons, this is an added complexity.  She has long legs so I've started 9-12 month trousers/leggings on her.
  • Deep belly laughs when daddy dribbles a football in front of her, or when mummy throws her cube soft toy in the air and hits it continuously in the air to prevent it from hitting the ground.  She finds both activities reeeeaaaaally funny.
  • Did her first road trip out of London!  We drove to Winchester (less then 2h each way) in Hampshire over this recent Bank Holiday weekend.
  • Current favourite songs: The wheels on the bus, and Five Little Ducks.  We introduced her to Little Baby Bum on Netflix, which is a series of nursery rhymes and songs and somehow these two songs just stuck.  Now when I sing them she would turn to me and I can get her attention this way.  Also sort of works while changing (to my first point).
  • All time classic (not sure if it's still her fav) song: Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star (doesn't quite work while changing cos I think she's heard enough of it)
  • Slept through for the first time, the one and only time.  We figure that night the stars aligned..
It is amazing to see that little Izzy is learning new things almost every day.  From actions like clapping her hands, to little new expressions which I've not seen before.  Motherhood is still tiring and the lack of sleep is still real, but it is more rewarding now compared to past months.

Solid food - we are still trying to figure this out.  I hope to report back with our experience in our next blog post.  I'm over relying on food pouches, and baby rice/ baby cereal at the moment so Isabelle has not been able to explore new foods yet.

First snack - apple rice cakes

I love this.  Daddy came home from work and I excitedly told him that Isabelle managed to stand up by herself that day,  by propping herself up on our footstool. She did it to show him and daddy was very excited.  And it was just after our national day so the flag was still in the background! lol

Very pleased with herself

Cheeky monkey

First time on the supermarket trolley

Weekend means we can laze in bed with daddy

Daddy says "I was working on my laptop in bed when suddenly a little head popped up by the side."

At her baby sensory class

You gotta chuckle.  This was taken at little Joseph's first birthday party.  Clearly Isabelle wasn't impressed by my choice of headwear for her.

Jubilee Weekend | Afternoon Tea Party

http://www.thediamondjubilee.org/ Today is the end of the Jubilee celebrations and how better to end it off than to have an afternoon tea party in the company of friends, while watching the celebrations on our TV.  It has been quite an emotional afternoon, in the good sense of course.  I don't think I've ever seen Queen Elizabeth on TV (and heard the national anthem God Save the Queen) more than these 3 days combined, but this Jubilee weekend has made me grew to love and admire this lady.  She is 86 and reminds me so much of my own granny, and her strength is amazing.  Imagine being sworn in as queen at the age of 26.  (I mean, what was I doing when I was 26?)  On Sunday when she and Prince Philip went onboard the Spirit of Chartwell boat to watch the River Pageant, it was cold and windy but they stood throughout the 3 hours event.  It was said she was offered some hot tea and a seat, which she both said no to.  I love my grandma but I have to say I don't think

Sleep, baby sleep

I had an idea to blog about Isabelle's sleep behaviour the other day.  Before having Isabelle, I had not the slightest idea how big the sleep topic is for a baby, and now a toddler.  I merely assumed that babies will sleep, no matter what, right?  Because they are tired right?  No, of course not.  Isabelle showed me how much she could and can fight sleep even when she is tired.  As a new mum, I did not know how to read her sleepy signs, and more often than not, she would be overtired by the time I catch her signs and by then she is cranky and crying.  Oh the tears.  From Isabelle and mummy. The early months Sleep has always been an issue for me when Isabelle was born.  She cried non stop every evening for hours on end, and we had no idea what to do with her.  Colic was the word most used on such babies, and everyone comforted us that this difficult phase would be over within 3 months.  I still remembered uttering "3 months?!" under my breath.  Not 3 weeks?

Murder Mystery Dinner Party

Two Saturdays ago we were invited to the Kim's for a themed dinner, specifically a Murder Mystery dinner party.  What is that, you might ask.  It was our first time attending such a dinner too, and so how it works is: a group of people attend a dinner party.  Each is assigned a role and will be given a script to read that night.  The aim of the party is to identify a murderer in the midst of us by the end of the night.  The hosts would work off a dinner game set (they got it off Amazon) and it comes with proper invites, setting/ scene, table name cards, scripts and even a suggested menu.  Clearly RX is an Agatha Christie fan. Two weeks beforehand, we received our invites in the postbox, telling us what roles we each have been assigned and the suggested attire (and props if necessary).  Interesting yes? The dinner was to start at 7pm and we were to have 8 people that night.  It's all very mysterious… Our invitation cards assigned K the role of Monsieur Bertrand, a f
