Dear Isabelle | 11.5 months

Dear Isabelle

Mummy missed writing a letter to you at 11 months.  That's because there has been lots going on.

My little penguin

What's happening?

Our household was down and we have all been battling the usual winter related cold and fever.  You did a settling in session at the nursery two weeks ago, and you came back with an eye infection which became a full blown high fever.  Your cheeks were so flushed and red, and we had to bring you to the GP twice.  Your temperature went to 39.8deg at the clinic and even the doctor was concerned.  She gave you a 10 day course of antibiotics and it had been really tough, trying to get you to take the medicine every 6h.  We can't trick you either; whenever you see the mere box of the antibiotics you start screaming; whenever you see us approaching you with a syringe, you start screaming too.  We thought by waking you up in the middle of the night you would be sleepy and be okay to take the meds, but no, you are as alert at 3am as anytime in the day.

Around the same time, your daddy caught a nasty cough and just when mummy thought she was the last man standing, nope she wasn't spared either... she had fever and a bad throat.  It has been battle after battle, but I'm happy to report that everything is better now.  Your fever is gone, you finished your course of antibiotics, and now mummy is fine too.  Daddy's cough is also getting better.

One of the biggest changes in your life is happening very soon.  Mummy is going back to work and you will be spending a lot of time between the nursery and the childminder's.  Last week was our trial run and although you did well, you seem to know this impending change and thus have been extra clingy these past few days.  You would cry when I leave the room, or if we are in the same room, you will always crawl towards me and give me that heart melting smile.  Mummy is finding it hard to leave you too, baby girl.  The other day when you refused to let go of mummy's legs at the nursery, mummy's heart broke into pieces.  I know this nursery isn't the best for you right now, but we are trying to see what we can do for you okay?  Let's all hang in there baby girl.

Moving around

You are cruising really well, and these days it is almost impossible to keep you happy in the play pen.  You dislike being 'caged in' and would often cry and scream until we let you out.  Whenever you are out, you would crawl around happily and mummy is fascinated that you would always go to this particular compartment (the wine rack) to pull out this small cardboard box which mummy has kept there.  I always put it back, but you will always come around and pull it out again and put it on the floor.  One major milestone last week was when you showed everyone at home how you can climb down the stairs!  You mastered the art of climbing up the stairs months ago, but last weekend out of the blue, you showed us how you descend carefully.  It was so impressive that both mummy, daddy and uncle SP were cheering you on whilst you looked at us like "huh what's going on?  I'm just doing my thing."  And so yes, we have moved on to the next phase of stairs climbing.  You do not want to climb up anymore; these days you only climb down the stairs.

Eating

You have certainly shown more interest in the food that daddy and mummy eat.  You often will lick your mouth as if to tell us you want to have a share in our yummy food too.  If we ignore you, you will proceed to scream for our attention.  You certainly love dim sum as we have found out.

Baby class

We attended the last baby sing and sign class a few weeks ago.  We have both grew to love this class, and our classmates too, isn't it?  Teacher Rebecca is so good at singing and showing us all the signs and you would always clap happily to your favourite songs.  You are also quite a student in that class!  While everyone sits calmly on the floor around the teacher, you love crawling right up to teacher Rebecca and hover around her table sniffing out her phone!  You love exploring for sure.  You seem to be able to always sniff out where all the mobile phones are!  For the last class we were asked to dress up in something Christmassy and so mummy dressed you up as a Christmas candy cane.  There you received your first Christmas present (from mummy).

We also attended our first baby classical concert two weeks ago.  It was a Christmas concert and there was a violinist as well as a pianist.  To be honest it was more for older kids and adults so you were not able to appreciate it.  But it's ok, still worth a try.

Another class we went to where the theme was teddy bear's picnic!
It was so fun mummy enjoyed it a lot.

Time certainly flies and we are looking at celebrating you turning ONE in two weeks' time!  How amazing is that baby girl?  We love you so much, and we can't wait to celebrate with you.  Stay cute and adorable.. you will always be our baby girl.

With all my love and kisses,
Mummy

Jubilee Weekend | Afternoon Tea Party

http://www.thediamondjubilee.org/ Today is the end of the Jubilee celebrations and how better to end it off than to have an afternoon tea party in the company of friends, while watching the celebrations on our TV.  It has been quite an emotional afternoon, in the good sense of course.  I don't think I've ever seen Queen Elizabeth on TV (and heard the national anthem God Save the Queen) more than these 3 days combined, but this Jubilee weekend has made me grew to love and admire this lady.  She is 86 and reminds me so much of my own granny, and her strength is amazing.  Imagine being sworn in as queen at the age of 26.  (I mean, what was I doing when I was 26?)  On Sunday when she and Prince Philip went onboard the Spirit of Chartwell boat to watch the River Pageant, it was cold and windy but they stood throughout the 3 hours event.  It was said she was offered some hot tea and a seat, which she both said no to.  I love my grandma but ...

Murder Mystery Dinner Party

Two Saturdays ago we were invited to the Kim's for a themed dinner, specifically a Murder Mystery dinner party.  What is that, you might ask.  It was our first time attending such a dinner too, and so how it works is: a group of people attend a dinner party.  Each is assigned a role and will be given a script to read that night.  The aim of the party is to identify a murderer in the midst of us by the end of the night.  The hosts would work off a dinner game set (they got it off Amazon) and it comes with proper invites, setting/ scene, table name cards, scripts and even a suggested menu.  Clearly RX is an Agatha Christie fan. Two weeks beforehand, we received our invites in the postbox, telling us what roles we each have been assigned and the suggested attire (and props if necessary).  Interesting yes? The dinner was to start at 7pm and we were to have 8 people that night.  It's all very mysterious… Our invitation cards assigned K the...

Cooking mee pok dry | bak chor and fishball noodles

When I touched down at Changi airport a few weeks ago, I was very hungry and K suggested grabbing a quick bite at the food court.  I immediately went for the queue at the bak chor (minced pork) noodles stall.  This one dish is very local and we simply can't find it here.  London's Chinatown has a few Malaysian restaurants with fried kway teow, chicken rice, laksa, etc but there is no authentic fishball noodles or minced pork noodles. When my friend Corinne shared this link last week, I was intrigued and I didn't know K was too.  He suggested going to the Asian supermarket on Sunday to get the necessary ingredients.  We found Dodo fishballs from Singapore here - what a win!  Unfortunately the mee pok (yellow, flat noodles) is of a darker shade here and tastes slightly different (maybe a different type of wheat?).  We found fishcakes too. http://delishar.com/2015/12/fishball-noodles-mee-pok-tah.html This is a healthier version of the hawker center'...
