Dear Isabelle | 14 months

Dearest Isabelle

Wow your previous post garnered quite many views as well as a few lovely comments.  Mummy thinks you should write soon!  Meanwhile, here is another "Dear Isabelle" post because we like to be nostalgic and record stuff down.  Both mummy and daddy think you have recently gone through a growth spurt - both physically and mentally.  It's like one day you woke up and decided to grow up and be all responsive to us when we talk to you, you start pointing and making noises in your cute baby language.  You are starting to tell us your likes and dislikes young lady!

Development at 14 months

Head, shoulders, knees and toes...
Ok, not quite the entire drill but baby, you know where your head is!  Little things like this that make our hearts swell with pride lol
We love to go "Where is your head Isabelle??" and you always smile and touch your head.  We can do this many times and you don't get tired haha
Of course, we then try to incorporate nose, eyes, mouth but you only like to point at your head.  It's ok, baby steps!  One day you will be able to point to us where your wriggly toes are too.

You are definitely more responsive and can understand certain things.  You love to point at stuff to bring to our attention.  You love to point at your baby snacks and hurry us to open for you.  You point at the birds when they fly past the garden.  You point to mummy when your muslin cloth is on the floor outside your cot bed.

The other morning we both had an early start to the day at 6am and mummy brought you downstairs for some breakfast.  In between mouthfuls of oats, I asked if you want some water, and asked where your water bottle is.  Instinctively you turned your head to where it was, and crawled over to take it.  Mummy was pretty impressed!

You are talking loads too.  We find it so adorable although of course, mostly we have no idea what you are babbling about.  The other day I heard you saying "No, baby" and I had to chuckle.  This phrase came from mummy because most of what you try to pull in the kitchen are out of bounds and so I always tell you "no, baby..." and you copy mummy!  Sometimes while playing you would mutter "no, baby" under your breath.  Isn't that the cutest?  Your latest word "Aiya".  So Singlish lah.  And you are so tickled by "aiya" that you kept giggling and laughing the other night.

Daddy has been training you on certain things, such as kicking a ball which we think you do very well, kudos to chunky feet.

Your first kids meal in a cafe

Your attention span on Little Baby Bum (your fav nursery rhymes) seems to have waned a little these days.  We play it for you but you no longer sit there and watch with bated breath, in stoney silence.  You love to move about, touch things, play with things, and look up at the TV once in a while.  Are you outgrowing nursery rhymes now Isabelle?

These past two days, you seem to discover giving kisses.  You open your mouth and move your lips towards my cheeks repeatedly - so sweet, baby girl.  Daddy was jealous and immediately stuck his cheeks towards you and you kissed him back, much to his delight.

These few days we suspect you are teething and so have been having a bit of diarrhoea but you ain't letting that affect your sleep.  Well done Isabelle for plodding through the pain.

We are midway through our weekly Baby Sing and Sign class and both of us are enjoying it so much.  I value our quality time together each week, and love spending time after class with our friends Indie-Monroe and Amelie.  You girls are the most adorable lot.  And you, like what aunt Becky calls you, are like a little magpie.  You keep polishing off their food for them.  You don't mind eating up whatever they don't want anymore on the table.  Last week, both you and Amelie finished half of my ham and cheese toastie!

Hanging out at the new IKEA after class last Wednesday

Last and the greatest development at 14 months - you took your first steps!  Hurray, well done baby girl!  You took your first steps about two weeks ago, when mummy brought you to buy your first proper pair of shoes.  You were cautious and not confident, but once you mustered enough courage, you started walking towards mummy.  Mummy squealed in delight and did a happy dance.  It's so nice to witness all your developments baby girl.  I wish time would slow down because you are truly a toddler now.

Getting your feet measured

Hugs and kisses,
mummy & daddy

Jubilee Weekend | Afternoon Tea Party

http://www.thediamondjubilee.org/ Today is the end of the Jubilee celebrations and how better to end it off than to have an afternoon tea party in the company of friends, while watching the celebrations on our TV.  It has been quite an emotional afternoon, in the good sense of course.  I don't think I've ever seen Queen Elizabeth on TV (and heard the national anthem God Save the Queen) more than these 3 days combined, but this Jubilee weekend has made me grew to love and admire this lady.  She is 86 and reminds me so much of my own granny, and her strength is amazing.  Imagine being sworn in as queen at the age of 26.  (I mean, what was I doing when I was 26?)  On Sunday when she and Prince Philip went onboard the Spirit of Chartwell boat to watch the River Pageant, it was cold and windy but they stood throughout the 3 hours event.  It was said she was offered some hot tea and a seat, which she both said no to.  I love my grandma but I have to say I don't think

Murder Mystery Dinner Party

Two Saturdays ago we were invited to the Kim's for a themed dinner, specifically a Murder Mystery dinner party.  What is that, you might ask.  It was our first time attending such a dinner too, and so how it works is: a group of people attend a dinner party.  Each is assigned a role and will be given a script to read that night.  The aim of the party is to identify a murderer in the midst of us by the end of the night.  The hosts would work off a dinner game set (they got it off Amazon) and it comes with proper invites, setting/ scene, table name cards, scripts and even a suggested menu.  Clearly RX is an Agatha Christie fan. Two weeks beforehand, we received our invites in the postbox, telling us what roles we each have been assigned and the suggested attire (and props if necessary).  Interesting yes? The dinner was to start at 7pm and we were to have 8 people that night.  It's all very mysterious… Our invitation cards assigned K the role of Monsieur Bertrand, a f

Cooking mee pok dry | bak chor and fishball noodles

When I touched down at Changi airport a few weeks ago, I was very hungry and K suggested grabbing a quick bite at the food court.  I immediately went for the queue at the bak chor (minced pork) noodles stall.  This one dish is very local and we simply can't find it here.  London's Chinatown has a few Malaysian restaurants with fried kway teow, chicken rice, laksa, etc but there is no authentic fishball noodles or minced pork noodles. When my friend Corinne shared this link last week, I was intrigued and I didn't know K was too.  He suggested going to the Asian supermarket on Sunday to get the necessary ingredients.  We found Dodo fishballs from Singapore here - what a win!  Unfortunately the mee pok (yellow, flat noodles) is of a darker shade here and tastes slightly different (maybe a different type of wheat?).  We found fishcakes too. http://delishar.com/2015/12/fishball-noodles-mee-pok-tah.html This is a healthier version of the hawker center's version in that
