Our holy grail for this trip |
The very reason why K planned for this trip - Euro Disney. He loves themed parks in general and loves thrilling rides. He was really excited for the trip and made sure he packed Izzy's Elsa dress in our luggage so that she could dress up whilst we were there. I thought it was really sweet of him when he whispered to my ear before we left, that Elsa dress is safely packed in our luggage. Good heavens, it didn't even occurred to me then to bring it along with us. Also, this was a bit of a special one in that the very first overseas weekend trip K and I did together was right here, at Disneyland Paris. I tried to find a pic of us taken here then, but it was pre iPhone era and Cloud backup, so I am unable to locate any photos.
Elsa has found her castle |
The plan was to visit Euro Disney over 3 days and stay overnight in one of the hotels near to the resort. K chose the Davy Crockett Ranch which was a 10min drive away to Disneyland.
Our ranch, which is an individual pod just by ourselves |
Good night, sweet dreams |
Every morning, K would be the first to wake and get our bags ready for the day. Then he would wake all of us up and subsequently hurry us out of the ranch because he wanted us to make it for the early morning meet and greet. En route he would drive to a boulangerie in the nearby town, and I will run out, grab some pastries, before we carried on towards Disneyland.
Just like Palace of Versailles, this is another massive place we are talking about here, though obviously very different in nature. From the car park to the security and Covid checks, we are talking a good 10min brisk walk. And then from there, another few minutes walk to the main entrance of Disneyland. Somehow from our hotel ranch to the main entrance of Disneyland, we would mysteriously take almost an hour! By the time we get past the gates, I feel like I need to sit down and rest.
Gotta walk past the pink building behind us to finally get into Disneyland! |
Finally the entrance behind them. where queues start to form |
Before the trip, I told K that 3 days was too long for Disneyland. "Won't we be tired of it by Day 3?" I wondered. Well, with two young kids and Gabriel still needing his afternoon nap, 3 days was just about sufficient! The long queues were the main thing. We spent a long time queuing up for rides, the most memorable one being the one for (surprise, surprise) Frozen. This was a special meet and greet, and almost all the little girls wanted to go for this one. Knowing Izzy's love for Frozen and Elsa in particular, I suggested queuing up for that one. It involved meeting Kristoff, Elsa and Anna in "real life", and they actually spend a few minutes chatting with you to make it very interactive. The queue to get in was at least one hour, we were told. And so we turned up more than an hour before, just to be sure. Each time they allowed 90 people in and once inside you continue queuing for your turn because now it takes time for the characters to chat with each family/ group. Sadly we were literally the last in our group of 90! Which meant we queued up for the longest in our group of 90. Bummer... finally it was our turn and needless to say Izzy was very happy to meet her favourite characters, even though she was a bit shy in answering their questions. When we emerged, there was another optional meet and greet with Olaf the snowman. This one, the queue was very short and it was our turn in no time. Poor Olaf!
Waiting so patiently for our turn |
Still waiting... to meet Kristoff |
You can see that Kristoff and fake Sven the reindeer were well behind K and Izzy. | Guess what? K got told off for pulling down his mask for this photo. Geez! |
And of course.. the magic moment with Elsa & Anna |
Hello Olaf! |
As the kids are young, we could only opt for the kiddy and slow rides. Which was fine by me. I could sense K's tinge of sadness as we didn't take any thrilling rides, and so I urged him to take a Star Wars galaxy ride (a roller coaster ride in the dark) while I accompanied the kids to walk around and visit some of the Disney stores. Gabriel was napping anyway so it was just me and Izzy doing a browse at the stores.
We walked a lot those 3 days, and we saw some characters for meet and greet, all with safe distancing rules in place. Masks were required even though it was an outdoor themed park. They were very strict and poor K got told off a few times for not covering his nose properly with his mask. Thankfully kids were spared the masks so they could enjoy some fresh air. Food wise the options were so-so.. expensive as expected. It did make me miss the cute Mickey rice bowls I enjoyed in Tokyo Disneyland.
Elsa and Elsa |
We took this horse carriage who brought us to the foot of the Disney Castle |
Back at our ranch, there were also a host of activities and facilities available but we did not have time for that as we devoted all our time for Disneyland. The only thing we tried was to use the BBQ outside our ranch and had a little BBQ dinner the night before we checked out.
Overall the kids enjoyed it, and we all left on a Disney high. Izzy kept talking about the day she met Elsa. Gabriel will shout "mouse" excitedly when he sees Mickey or Minnie these days. And K, well I spotted him playing Disney songs in the study when he was working from home.
Meet & greet with Minnie |
Our final ride before leaving Disneyland. |
Good bye Disneyland, thank you for all the fun and till we meet again!
